Plus theres a good chance the PS4 won't be Backwards compatible with PS3 games anyway save for the streaming GAKAI service.

You didn't waste your money. There's not even a chance of the PS4 being PS3 BC without some kind of streaming service (as the rumors have suggested).

However, you did lack some common sense. It's only logical that almost 8 years after the PS3 was announced, Sony would announce the PS4 at any moment.
