What I find interesting about this topic, is how little anyone mentions post game content for FFXIII. Really, the combat isn't all that difficult in XIII until near the end. After you beat the game, that is when the whole paradigm shifting makes and breaks you. I found some of the bonus battles against the marks fun and pretty challenging near the later half of the marks you hunt down. Beating a Long Gui and Vercingetorix is no joke.

I like both games for totally different reasons from one another. I don't see a reason for the total hatred for one or the other.

I mentioned this earlier somewhat. The system was a lot of fun once you got to tougher enemies where you actually had to shift.

I know it was mentioned by a few people. I guess I'm one of the few that played through FFXIII a second time, and in that second time, did everything I could (minus grabbing all treasures achievement) It was the same for FFX, I played that game to death and did all the stuff you could do in that game on my first playthrough.

But I never had a respect for the combat system in FFXIII until I did the optional stuff post game.

Yeah I played the game mostly just auto battle, then got to a point where I was getting slaughtered until I started to shift and pay attention to it.

Oh, and I didn't mean my previous as a "yeah people said that already dummy" kind of thing. Lol. Was just agreeing with you.

Because despite being linear, it had good pacing, a great story, a great battle system, likable characters, and towns and mini-games to enjoy along the way. Final Fantasy XIII's story was mediocre and underdeveloped, the world was lifeless, the art direction was dull, and there were no breaks from the endless battles.

This.

Why can't people accept that the majority of FF fans think FF13 sucks? Just because its a FF game doesn't mean its entitled to be loved by the masses. I personally hated it, first FF game I couldn't bring myself to finish, never played FF13-2.

-The world was full of monsters =O Far from Lifeless.
-Art direction? I kinda agree but the awesome graphics make up for it.
-And I could say the same about X. Unless you mean the exclusion of towns (of course you do) But I could easily avoided most of those enemies.

Topic: The thing is, FF13 was different from FFX:
In X:
1.) Story was much better.
2.) CTB was best battle system. More thinking.
3.) The linearity was better managed.

But then again:
13:
1.)Battle fitted the story. We're on the run from the law but we can't stop till we get to ____.
2.) More action packed/faster.
3.) Graphics wayy advance.
4.) Monsters are visible, you know exactly what you could be fighting.
5.) More interesting bosses.

But XIII definitely had more problems than X.

Versus XIII is coming in 2014, GTA5 will be awesome, and PS4/Xbox 720 is coming in Dec. Lightning Return will be super awesome and I don't care what you think!

Several of the previous FF games had the heroes on the run from the law! It's no excuse to make the battles the way they did in 13. But if Square insisted on forcing the battle system to match the story, then it's their own fault for writing a story that makes the battle system that way. I certainly wouldn't write a whole RPG about a guy in prison who can never leave his cell. Even if I designed the battle system to be all restrictive and spastic, as if actually fighting a cellmate or guard inside an real cell, that wouldn't make it good. RPG battles were never about how well the type of battle system fit into the story. Actual fighters would never use strategy/turn-based tactics in a fight against a wild animal either, so why the sudden need to force them to match?

In 12 the world was so big they could hide anywhere all day (but didn't). X, the people didn't outright attempt to be rid of the cast.
And I think you're confusing battle-system with other stuffs.

I agree that FFXIII has been criticized for things that were also criticized in FFX at the time (linearity and not enough towns).

Still I wouldn't put FFXIII on the same level as X but certainly something to think about, people have double standards.
