Why do you start topic like this? If you like one game over the other, why do you feel the need to justify your opinion over the opinion of others.
So some people like X over XIII, who cares it is just their opinion if you agree/disagree it is up to you and none else. So they flame the game that they hate, but you love it. Does it change the fact that you still love it even though they hate it?

People do not need a reason to like or hate something, they just do but then they try to justify their choice (usually when their choices are questioned by others).

TC makes the assumption that FFXIII being a "hallway" is what makes people hate it. That's wrong. People hate it for many different reasons - reasons which are not duplicated in FFX.

FFX is actually a good game, with a coherent narrative and competent game design.

FFXIII is not.

Because despite being linear, it had good pacing, a great story, a great battle system, likable characters, and towns and mini-games to enjoy along the way. Final Fantasy XIII's story was mediocre and underdeveloped, the world was lifeless, the art direction was dull, and there were no breaks from the endless battles.

first off, i love both games. 8 and 12 are the only 2 ffs i dont like since 7.

i felt more empathy for the characters of 10 over 13. i actually cared about yuna, i wanted to see sin done, i wanted tidus smack around his father, i wanted to defeat kinahri's ronso peers.

and in 13, i just couldn't give 2 sh!ts about any of the characters, their backstorys or even the main story. well, except for sazh and his son, kinda.

FFX was a great tragedy. Actually there were two. Tidus' childhood and relationship with his father, and Yuna's journey. On top of that, one of the things FFX did well that other FF's have had trouble with was Aeons. FFX Aeon's were actually useful, powerful and looked cool. Gameplay has a nice balance of random encounters and the turn based battle system is one of the better turned based imho. And if all of that is not enough it has Rikku!

Double standards.

Also FFX is garbage compared to XIII.

XIII has a far superior battle system and better characters.

Agree, FFX deserve to be on nintendo platform, not PS lol

People talk about handholding in games today, but you know an RPG is holding your hand when it tells you what level you can be at any given time

You mean what games like Magic of Scheherazade have been doing since the 80s?

They are both horrid. X at least has fun combat, but that is it. The only other good things to come out of it were Jecht and Auron.

Auron is one of the most generic characters ever.

Guy with a sword who barely talks? Sooooo original.

Well, it kinda still was at the time. Can't really think of any Auron types before him that are like "the origin" of that persona in video games. Maybe Vincent from FF VII but he doesn't have a sword.

I found it too hard to get invested in the storyline of FFXIII whereas FFX pulled you in a little better. Maybe it's me getting older and wanting more but I found myself thinking a lot in FFXIII "I have no idea what I'm doing any of this for." Which made me sort of not care as well.

FFX had it's flaws especially compared to some of the earlier games but with the rise of the Western RPG the FF games sort of have to try and cherry pick the best bits out of them without changing the DNA of a JRPG. I think the combat was kind of fun in FFXIII but it also felt after a while like watching rather than playing (FFXII had this as well). FFX was for all intents and purposes a typical JRPG combat system simple but not boring.
