Looking to buy a PS3, questions.

So I've been an xbox owner for the past 6 years, but I use to be a fan of ps2 exclusively. I really want to have the backwards compatability of the ps3 to play some old rpg, and whatever good games they've made for the ps3 in the past few years. My question is, are all the console system versions backwards compatible, and how much memory do I need? I know for the xbox memory space isn't crucial, I want sure for the ps3. I was offered a deal by my brother, buy him a blue ray equivalent and he'll trade me the ps3 for it. He has a 60 gig memory version.

I forgot, is it backwards compatible with ps2 games as well?

His 60Gb should be BC though all the new PS3s aren't and you can just buy a 1TB Laptop HDD for 70$ and you'll have enough room for everything, though with just 320GB you'll be ok unless you buy digital only.

lol, good luck finding one of those old systems in decent shape for a reasonable price.

How can I tell if an older model is bc? Is there a certain serial number series? Well it's been in my brothers possession of for like 5 years and he only uses it for blue ray, so I'm sure it's in good shape. That's kind of dumb that the newer models aren't bc, I would think it would be the opposite.

He said his brother will trade his 60GB for a Blu-ray player.

So it's not evident, such as all slims aren't bc but all models before that are?

Well the first PS3s are which are the 20GB model, 60GB model, and 80GB model the ones that you can tell just by looking at them that are not BC are slims and superslims.
