After playing Ni No Kuni, FFXIII, Xenoblade, Tales of G, etc...

I can safely say that I want my dang turn-based combat systems back. Who KEEPS putting their danged half-assed action in my JRPGs?!?!

Combat ALWAYS devolves into spamming the same X/O button attack over and over ad nauseam.

I'm not hating on any of these games, as I think they're all good (except Xenoblade), but gameplay never "clicks" and gets more interesting than what I've just described above.

The day that SMT jumps aboard this annoying trend is the day I all but give up the controller.

With me?

ehh, I don't really think it's weird that tales of graces f has an action combat system since that series has always was an action rpg series.
though it does seem that there isn't really much turned based combat.

Well what difficulty did you play ToGf on since it's more then mashing X and/or O you need to evade.

I don't care if it's done right.

It was done poorly in FFXIII, but done right in Xenoblade.
NNK did it alright.

*wants turn based combat back*

*complains about it turning into pressing the same button for the same attacks*

Okay, I'll be honest.

Of the games I mentioned, Tales of Graces is the most RPG-esque and most strategic of the bunch. And no, I'm not saying that to appease; just lumped it in since it seemed fitting.

So I take that back about Tales.

Do you guys not remember how tense battles were in FFX or Xenosaga/gears when you had to pause and think of what action to perform since it might mean either winning or GAME OVER?

I'm not even exaggerating when I say that in all of the above games and more I simply spammed the same side/front/back attack until I see my HP bar deplete at which point I healed, etc.

Same...old...thing...in...every...game.

Ok since I agree about Ni no kuni (haven't played enough of Xenoblade) since the game is so easy you just need to mash X but Tales of Graces f has an awesome battle system.

theres already ff 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 10 using that formula, why does 13 need to do it AGAIN? move on tc...did it de-evolve or are you unwilling to try new things?

Never experienced that because I've never needed extra time just to think,
but different strokes for different folks.
I've seen the same importance from my actions in actions RPGs as well.
