Am I a bad gamer if I don't give a f*** about trophies and getting them?

Wrong, TC. It makes you a GOOD gamer

It makes you a true gamer, like in the good old days when you play the game for the sake of playing the game. Trophies/achievements and people who think that they are actually good players by collecting them are disgrace to the gaming, because they are supporting reduction of content. Before trophies/achievements, when players got over some milestone in the game they were rewarded with some sweet unlocked in-game content (new weapons/items, additional story/ending, art, etc.); now, you get bloody trophy that does nothing what-so-ever and you have to pay for the rest of the content that is already on the disc to be unlocked.

Only for games I care about and don't have a thousand online trophies. I won't go out of my way to get trophies that require me to do something insane.

This is exactly how I feel. I really enjoyed Protoype 2 so I figured I go for all of the trophies because they required me to do everything in the game. The ridiculous crap like kill 10,000 enemies online ain't gonna happen. I used to go hard for trophies but decided I'm not going to do outrageous stuff for them anymore. I just play the game how I want and then go for them later if I feel they are not ridiculous.

Nope, personally, I got burned out when I got to the point where my friends wouldn't be able to catch up.

I think trophies can be stupid.

I've been gaming for 20+ years, and I've always considered myself to be a completionist. But trophies these days often don't really coincide with my idea of "100% completion" (i.e. beating the game on the hardest difficulties, unlocking all the secrets, doing all side missions, collecting every weapon/armor/item, fully upgrading your character, etc etc etc.). Oftentimes, trophies require you to do some really random task (like kill x number of a certain type of enemy, or kill an enemy using a certain type of weapon, etc.). Furthermore, some trophies require you to go online. So for me, I'm happy with sticking to the traditional definition of "100% completion." I'm not going to waste time jumping through hoops and doing stupid little tasks or doing stuff online just to get a trophy.

I completely agree with this guy.

I've even seen trophies that rely on uploading pictures to facebook.

How are you going to achieve things like that 10 years from now when that fad is over and that site is defunct?

I haven't seen any trophies for games I played where you had to upload a pic to facebook.

It sounds as if you are trying to give yourself reassurance. Maybe you aren't, but that's how your post came off.
