I love QTE's. My favorite games of all time is Shenmue. The game that coined the term QTE and made QTE's popular today. So obviously I love QTE's. But a lot of people hate QTE's and I'll tell you why.

QTE's require two things. Fast reaction time and good hand eye coordination. Two things that most people lack. Unfortunately most people are extremely dumb and are completely unconscious to anything around them which makes QTE's very difficult for them.

You see the problem is that their brains can't register the input commands fast enough because they have slow reaction time. By the time their brain registers what button is on the screen it's too late and they already missed the button press. Or they press the wrong button on the controller which comes down to bad hand eye coordination.

I hope they continue to add QTE's to video games for years to come. I enjoy them. I look forward to them actually. I never have any problems with QTE's so to me they're always fun and enjoyable.

So basically people hate QTE's because they suck at them. And people suck at QTE's because they're not smart enough to react quick enough to them.

Good job sir.

I'm ignoring your notion that one has to be smart in order to react fast.

People hate QTEs because they are a cheap, lazy gameplay mechanic.

BerserK PS2 was cinematic gameplay done right without resorting to QTE's due to it's counter system.

Also Evil Zone PS1 was pretty cinematic as well back in the day...

QTEs feel like a Wii casual party game.

its also more about watching a movie then playing and doing your own thing which is boring.

Even those require more effort on the developers' part.

I have no problem with QTEs during gameplay but they have no business during cutscenes. I like put the controller down and relax while I watch cutscenes.

Agreed.

The only time I don't mind QTEs is when the button you press actually corresponds to an action that is already in the game, eg. If the X button is jump, and a QTE 'X' flashes in a scene that means 'jump out of the way of danger' then that is more acceptable. I think developers still don't know how to properly incorporate cinematic parts with gameplay.

My reflexes must be so sharp that I find every qte a chore. They stopped making Dragon's Lair for a reason. I was about to jump all over the "their" instead of " they're", but oh well. Sounds like Asura's Wrath would be right up your alley, except for the annoying unscripted parts.
