I have no problem with QTEs during gameplay but they have no business during cutscenes. I like put the controller down and relax while I watch cutscenes.

This. As long as a game isn't saturated with QTE's I'll put up with them. I'll never like them though. they're annoying, lazy and just plain not fun.

Here's my thing about QTE's: You need quiet moments in your games. Now, I'm not saying the cutscene can't be action-packed, but you need moments in your game when nothing is baring down on you or you are not frantically pressing buttons or anything like that. You need those moments where you can just take in the atmosphere or story and cutscenes tend to give you that oppourtunity. However, if QTE's are peppered through those moments, then it causes fatigue and I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to give myself a break and shut it off if the game won't give me a break, breaking up sequences and lessening the experience.

Another aspect about QTE's if you are going to have them: the buttons you're pressing have to mean something. I shouldn't have to waggle the stick or rapidly press triangle if the actions associated with those movements does not match the actions in gameplay. That creates a dissonance and can be kind of irritating, instead of it feeling natural, it's whatever the game feels like ATM, ruining the immersion even further. Also, if I fail, a better see a unique animation for failing. No rewind or canned animation.

Still doesn't change the fact that it is at best a lazy game design, and at worst downright frustrating and unplayable.

That's the thing though it does, it's hardly lazy if it works effectively to add value to the gameplay.

QTE's..
A game mechanic that has been in play since you were a baby. Remember those learning games where you press the button when it lights up? How about Simon Says, the little black battery powered light game where you have to copy the pattern of lights after the machine shows it to you??

You don't remember those!?
Well, that's how old the game play mechanic you're creaming your jeans over is.

The real reason people hate them is because they are old, tired and stale. They bring nothing but annoyance to the table of overall game experience. Much like this trollish topic.

The school for the gifted is over there TC, just take that short bus.. And don't forget your SpongeBob helmet.

If you fell for it, it isn't cheap. It is just something that works on you. Adapt.. Or curl up in the fetal position, your call.
