What made the PS2 so succefull for the casuals?

As far as I know, it didn't have any gimmick that made it sell like the Wii did. It also didn't have a "Mario" that would attract millions of people. So what exactly made it sell so well to the casual market?

Funny to think about now, but the fact it had a DVD Player was a big deal back then.

The library. The utilities of it.

The point, btw. We didn't really establish a "casual" back then.

The PS2 was meant for gamers, not casuals. That's why it did so well. The casuals were doing what they do best: watching Michael Bay movies and doing stuff outdoors, leaving gamers to actually enjoy gaming.

great marketing and the staggering amount of options in its library of games are the two main things imo

how clueless are you or were you jk?

considering most here seem to hate 99% of all games that come out this gen wouldnt that make this place filled with causals? Leaving actual gamers to play all the game most here not only hate but are completely unaware of uness its AAA or hyped up the ass.....you guys are doing oyur thing and the actual gamers are playing games enjoying themselves over whining like babies over games you never even play.....sound silly?

BTW core gamers werent the larger % of ps2 owners, if you knew your history you would realise ps1 and more so ps2 was extremely succesful with the mainstream market, in fact that was one of sony goals....

Well, for a $300 DVD player at the time, it was a huge selling point. Also, GTA 3 came out on the PS2 first.

Just because the PS3 and 360 will continue to have games, the PS4 and 720 will still come out fall of 2013. 1-24-12

PS1 backwards compatibility, games were cheap (some retailed for $40 or less), hackable, easy to play pirated games, something the PS3 lacked. Also the PS2 was far cheaper, it was $199 by 2003.
