So I am in the process of trying to plat Sly Thieves in time and a question dawned on me that I can't seem to find a good answer to.

How do these games expect you to find all these collectibles without following a guide online? I am talking about games that want you to find X amount of treasures stashed about in the games world without giving you any indication as to where they might be.

For Sly you might be able to say the worlds are small enough to discover everything. But then I think of assassin's creed 2 which had you look for 100 feathers that are really easy to miss even when you're standing right next to it because its bright white like the rest of the area. How do these people who make these guides figure out where everything is?

Is there something I am missing? Do these people actual comb through every inch of the game world to find these things?

To search...and search...and search. Which nobody in the their right mind would take the time to do unless they REALLY enjoy that game.

Take the feathers in Assassin's Creed II for instance. Who the heck is going to search for all of those things?

By myself? I won't. I'd actually would use a guide.

So you'd buy a strategy guide....or wait until someone else does and posts stuff online.

But that just it! Assassin's Creed 2 has one of the highest Plat rates according to Psnprofiles. I used a guide which I assume most did but somebody had to make the original guide. How did that person find all those feathers? I refuse to believe they just combed every nook and cranny because I feel like if I did that non stop since release day I still wouldn't of been able to find them all.

Is it really so surprising that some people take the time to completely explore a game?

Hmm put impossible collectables in your game. Require an official strategy guide to find them all. More guides sold. That makes sense

It's called licensing a book maker to make a guide for a game, giving them all the information for the game.

The size of AC2? And not just explore but explore extremely carefully so you don't miss nothing. That is insanity. I know if i did it I would of missed quite a few because of how well a few of those feathers were hidden.
