I was wondering the same thing. Oddly enough, Sony hasn't seemed to mention it even exists yet.

wth i already had this firmware version and its making me download it again. i mean i downloaded it then it made me do it again after i already installed it several minutes ago.

maybe it added ps2 bc to slims after sony was found out by that cfw user that used a perfect emulation. one could hope

just installed it. anybody else hearing a really low voice coming from inside the ps3 now? swear it sounds like it saying "help get me outta here" or something. f***ing weird.

I'd like to know too. Turned on my PS3 like 30-45 minutes ago and it says new 4.40 firmware update, but there is literally ZERO info about it online. Even the official PS site shows 4.31 as the current.

Does Sony usually make a statement ahead of time before releasing new firmware?
I'm installing now, and the fact that I can't find any information about this anywhere either makes me feel uneasy.....

Usually they at least hint at it coming, but there was no warning or details, and playstation.com doesn't acknowledge it's existence.
