You must have been gone for the past 25 years or very very young. Final Fantasy used to be a force of nature that most companies would die to have.


Actually, Shineboxer is right, the only games that were developed by SquareEnix were FFXII and FFXIII and its sequels, all mediocre games at best.

The other games, that are what you are probably refering, were created by Squaresoft, a company that, sadly, no longer exists.

First of all FF12 was an awesome game, way better than 8, 9, and 10

Second it's not like the merger with Enix changed either company at all, saying Squaresoft "doesn't exist" is really dumb....

Actually the merger probably did do one thing and that is removed the aspect of competition between Square and Enix (FF and Dragon Quest). Though FF12 and DQ8 were both phenomenal.

I'm pretty sure the competition between those two series is what drove them to be really good, DQ always had a firm lock on classic JRPG sensabliites while FF usually pioneered new system and tried new things...

FF13 and DQ9 threw all that out the window and they both sucked because of it.

More like the ignorance of the fanbase who think more of the exact same thing is always good and the regionally challenged who developed their own definitions of how games should be defined by region and expect developers/publishers to meekly follow along. That's what happened.

Until the above two groups get their heads out of their puckerholes they aren't going to realize they created this abnormality they have cornered themselves into.

The problem isn't that they focused on social games, it's that their management is terrible.

Look at their iOS pricing compared to their competitors. Look at the fact that possibly the lowest fan reaction to a numbered FF game except maybe VIII, is getting 2 sequels no one asked for. Look at how well they've handled 0-Type, and Versus. Look at their no plans to localize games like Bravely Default despite fan request.

Let's make an HD remake of 2 games. Final Fantasy X/X-2, decently liked FFs, but not the pinnacle of the series by any measure. It took them years to pull it off, and it's not a complete remake either, just a touch up/res up.

Kingdom Hearts HD collection split into 2 or more parts.

Final Fantasy XIV, just everything about how this was handled.


Even if they move away from social games, they are still going to just have terrible management.

Yeah no. After SS stopped being SS, the quality took a nosedive.
