Shenmue 3 published by Sony?

I'll take it as a good sign if, for some reason, PS3/PS4 manage to secure a re-release of Shenmue 1 and 2 in HD.

I can still dream.

Doesn't seem too far fetched, though, how many people would still buy it?

@Jon_God

It would be a horrible business decision. A sequel to a niche and barely sold game from 10+ years ago? It's very small fan base is the only group clamoring for it.

Here are the things you missed by a lightyear -

The fanbase isn't small

If the game is good enough, MORE will clamor for it.

A good solid game is never unnecessary right now.

Attitudes like yours is why gaming sucks nowadays, why there's no originality or innovation and just playing it safe to sell copies.

Idk about the attitude but the game was one of the best sold dreamcast games. Not niche at all. Oh yeah except the style, its not like open world adventures are selling these days.

For the love of God, can this finally happen so we see what happen to Ryo after Shenmue II.
#18glyde69Posted 3/30/2013 5:43:46 PM
I would like to see Shenmue 3 regardless of who makes it. I remember reading an interview in 2000 about how they were planning 16 games to tell the tale. I guess that didnt pan out. But I really liked 1, and while the sequel wasnt as solid, it did leave me wanting more at the end.

And what makes you think a brand new IP has any more of a chance? Plenty of failed new IP launch system games in the past you know...

Shenmue was ahead of it's time and in some ways still is. There are things in it that other sandbox game developers still cut corners on...and many that are influenced by it

I'll take Shenmue III over GTA, Saints Row, or any generic FPS any day of the week...
