Which type of fighting games you prefer? Niche Failures or Household Names?

#12Point5DPosted 4/1/2013 1:36:22 PM
What type of fighters do you think are better in quality?

Niche failures are the unpopular ones like The King of Fighters, Marvel vs Capcom, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, Arcana Heart and Virtua Fighter.

Household names are the mainstream ones like Street Fighter, BlazBlue, Mortal Kombat and Tekken.

Can't tell if serious. It is April Fool's but looking around on this board it wouldn't surprise me if this guy actually believes what he says...

did you just come out of a cave? Ultimate MvC3 is the most popular fighter right now, it's the most hyped up fighter in any tournament. The other fighters I can kind of agree except Kof13 is now very popular and shows up on almost every major tournament. BlazBlue mainstream fighter? maybe in Japan

edit: OMG I keep forgetting it's April fools and keep taking these troll topics seriously.

That's easy, SF, BB, MK and Tekken. They're not called the "Big Four" for nothing, they're all great franchises.

Niche failures tend to suck. Virtua Fighter hasn't had a good game since 2 and Marvel Vs Capcom sucked since it became Marvel vs Capcom. Soul Edge/Calibur is very overrated, DOA is a laughing stock, Arcana Heart is for creepy pedos and The King of Fighters is the biggest POS to ever exist.

Yes, meaning all of them failed to become popular.

In Virtua Fighters's case, it was once a famous series during the 90s arcade era (especially the first two games), but ever since it hit the consoles (the Saturn and 32X, both which nobody bought), it lost popularity and. And when VF3 came out, it was hugely ignored because the majority of VF's arcade fanbase had already converted to Tekken (which was ported to the biggest-selling console at the time, the PSX).

Capcom's Marvel series was also once famous with X-Men COTA, Marvel Super Heroes and the two Street Fighter crossovers, but the PSX ports of the Marvel/SF crossovers suffered from the lack of tagging, which basically hurt its popularity. Casuals started losing interest when it became MvC because nobody wanted to use a bunch of obscure characters.

The Soul series was never really famous, but it did have one big moment. The console versions of SC2 had three iconic guest characters, Heihachi on PS2, Link on GC, and Spawn on Xbox. Because of that, SC2 sold 1.2 million copies, and that was the franchise's only million seller. The rest (yes even SC4, despite Star Wars characters) sold like garbage.

The King of Fighters was NEVER famous, though the game could've been had they put the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting characters on the flyers and brought in characters from Samurai Showdown and Ikari Warrior. But instead, stupid SNK decided to create and promote a bunch of crappy celebrity knockoff originals, and no one was buying into that crap. Not to mention KOF 94 was a poor, clunky and stiff imitation of SF2.

.Blazpoo is up there with MK and Tekken? HAHAHA!

BlazBlue is actually bigger than Tekken. It's been mentioned on several TV shows. It's also been parodied on SNL and Mad TV. The game has had tournaments on MTV, Nickelodeon and Fox. The series has sold over 7 million copies in just three years. Hell, there's even a movie coming out.

So yes, BlazBlue is a household name.
