Isn't the purpose of gaming is to simply have fun?

I don't get the people who want to turn gaming into in fictitious dick measuring contest. I couldn't care less if you play every game on the hardest setting and shun anything that doesn't have an impossible setting. There is no shame in playing a game on easy or not having the patience to memorize a trial and error difficulty game like Battlekid. There's enough gaming variety for everybody and it should be to each his own.

Fun for you isn't fun for me.

/Thread.

But, I will continue anyway -

If gaming's sole purpose is to be fun, it CANNOT be considered an art form. Which it is.

Thus, games are artistic mediums for developers to get across their ideas to us. Their designs. Their thoughts. Their wishes.

Do you honestly believe every single game is a piece of art?

Define "piece of art".

You are obviously coming in with the implication that every game should be an artistic masterpiece like Shadow of the Colossus.

No, not every game should be a "piece of art" of that caliber. Some are, some aren't.

That however doesn't nullify the actuality that games are an artistic medium. Or rather were.

Provoking other users to respond inappropriately = Troll
Even the most positive remark can provoke inappropriate responses. Thus, we ALL troll.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone.
The armory of god is guarding me but all you can see is holographic artistry.

I was actually coming in with the implication that I also think some are art and some aren't.

But I misunderstood your first post. When you said games are an art form, I misinterpreted it as "All games are art" and I hate that bullcrap.

If someone's whole gaming diet consists of just the popular stuff like Gears, Halo, CoD, GTA and the like I don't see why they wouldn't be considered gamers. They're playing games. Who am I to tell them how to have fun? I love the Dynasty Warriors line of games, I can't exactly judge.
