Do you think 2D sprites (ala Megaman X6) are a thing of the past?

I'm also sad to see people mentioning KOFXIII more than BlazBlue. Because BlazBlue is phenomenal with its sprites. And by extension, Arc System Works in general knows how to make great sprite HD games: Skullgirls, Arcana Hearts 3, Persona 4: Arena, Hard Corps Uprising, etc.

KOF XIII gives me hope that 2D sprites will one day make a comeback!

I dunno, in some sense I think the KoF series is an indication of why sprites died off for fighting games - it took such a massive amount of work to draw all those HD sprites that they had to massively scale back the size of the roster in order to get the game done in any reasonable time frame, and it still basically took 2 years to do it (the previous KoF game was the first to use the redrawn sprites, but it had an absurdly small roster and was widely panned).
