So uh... what did SE do for the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary here in the West?

#1gfaqsterPosted 4/20/2013 12:58:48 AM
I mean Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was that how they celebrated?
Or is the upcoming Lightning Returns FF13 or FF X/X-2 HD going to be the anniversary celebration?

I'm trying to understand why a BIG series like FF didn't get something special for its 25th anniversary.

Are they going to say something at E3 this year perhaps?

Since there was no announcement, we should assume that they're all running around throwing pies at each other. So, business as usual.

I know for Nintendo, we got Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 3DS, along with the soundtrack for a certain amount of people.

First, there's no "West".
FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary is Global, not regional.
FINAL FANTASY was released on December 17, 1987.
Meaning it's 25th Anniversary is ongoing until December 17, 2013.

Now, if something is only released in Japan or South Africa, it doesn't matter, it's still part of FINAL FANTASY.
So please don't regional-ise it, because then the "West" FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary would be:

USA = July 12, 2015
Europe & Other territories = November 14-17, 2022

And there are the possibilities of FINAL FANTASY VI Anniversary and FINAL FANTASY Type-0 HD.

Seriously, there's something here for every type of FINAL FANTASY fan. Every one!
From Turn Based FINAL FANTASY fans, to Action FINAL FANTASY fans, to original Crystal Mythos FINAL FANTASY fans, to social gaming FINAL FANTASY fans, to MMORPG FINAL FANTASY fans, to fans of FINAL FANTASY Music, to collectors of FINAL FANTASY stuff, even to fans of SRPG FINAL FANTASY.

There are even tons of Worldwide Events, even a freaking FINAL FANTASY PUB opened, and absolutely tons of awesome Play Art KAI figures are released.

Also, a really special FINAL FANTASY Artwork Exhibit took place a few months ago with super rare art from old FINAL FANTASY installments. It was awesome (I wish I could have been there).
Next week there's also an absolutely awesome FINAL FANTASY VIII Exhibit:

There's even an absolutely awesome FINAL FANTASY spinoff called Bravely Default: Flying Fairy that was released.

Seriously, there's not one other franchise in gaming history doing as much for its fans as FINAL FANTASY.
Not even METAL GEAR.

You need to use faulty logic. Final Fantasy turns 25 this year. It doesn't matter that it's not in the west. If you're 20 years old before moving from Japan to the US... then it's not like you turn 5, 5 years later. No, you turn 25.

Also, the collection box is Japan only. Theatrhythm is the only decent attempt we got at an anniversary game. All The Bravest turned out to be one of the worst cases of publishers scamming money out of consumers and it's only on iOS (really, no FF fan gives a f*** about the anniversary on a horrible gaming platform). Most of the games aren't even anniversary games. They're games that came out during the year of anniversary, which is different.

And despite you saying "worldwide events", most things aren't even in reach for most of the fans. They can't just expect fans to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars/euros worth of money to visit an event.

In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow.

I know.
Square Enix should come in every FINAL FANTASY fan's household, with their whole museum and Band, and play FINAL FANTASY Main Theme for an hour.
Also, create an HD version of your favorite installment, just for you, and hand it over to you alone.
Oh and make you a playable character.

Face it, FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary is for FINAL FANTASY FANS.
FINAL FANTASY V and FINAL FANTASY Dimensions are awesome no matter what anyone who doesn't like iOS/Android says (and I personally don't prefer them).
But they are FINAL FANTASY, and are awesome, and a fan of FINAL FANTASY plays FINAL FANTASY, not selective FINAL FANTASY.

Also, the Collection Box shipped worldwide so I have no idea what you're talking about.
I have a Spanish friend who got it.

Well I was just expecting something good.

Like a history of final fantasy bluray with interviews with everyone from FF and an artbook.

The collection shipped worldwide, but it's still everything in Japanese. It's not for the west. And while Dimensions is a good game, it's still released on a horrible gaming platform. Their fans are mostly on consoles & handhelds, releasing anniversary games for the phones just shows they're not in-touch with their fanbase.

1) FINAL FANTASY is a japanese franchise.
2) And?

Fans are where FINAL FANTASY is, not the opposite way.
The sales of Dimensions show this.

Look, I personally can't wait for Dimensions PSP/VITA too, but that's another thing.

And there's no thing called "in touch".
They release a product.
You decide wether to buy it or not.
That's all.
