In a few years, do you think people look back at the FF XIII saga and say...

It was actually ok ?

I remember people back then saying that IX, X, and XII were one of the worst but skip to today and it's appearing on everyones favorites list.

I'll leave the experts to explain why XIII was good or bad.

Personally XIII was one of my favorites along with V, VII, and X.

I already acknowledge certain things in the FFXIII games to be good, but the overall games themselves are poor compared to other RPGs in general, and Final Fantasy titles in particular.

All that "Steamlining" they did took away some of the best parts of an RPG.

I always loved FFIX, and FFXII, although I did think FFXII's story was kind of weak and I didn't like the random loot chests, random chest spawns, or the most asinine thing of all...those damn chests that randomly spawn 2 chests in the same place at the same time with two different loot tables like the one for the Zodiac Shield.

I never cared much for FFX for a lot of the same reasons I don't care for FFXIII. At least FFX didn't strip the game of typical RPG content that I find very enjoyable though. Even if some of that content was some of the weakest of the series, I'll still take it over not having it at all, but I'd rather have had good content in it's place.

The only Final Fantasy title I've ever flip-flopped over was FFVIII. I didn't really care for it much the first time I played, but that's because I honestly screwed myself to hell and didn't really understand the Junction System. Subsequent replays have changed my opinion of the game, and I'm quite fond of it. It's not in my top 5, but it's not in my bottom 5 either.

If you're not going to share with the entire class, then don't bother sharing at all.
Online is the worst thing to happen to gaming.

I'm just glad FFXIII fixed all the problems with FFXII and got rid of the trash elements that were plaguing the series. FFXIII-2 reversed a lot of those fixes, but we've all seen how that was received sales-wise. It wasn't the FFXIII sequel everyone was hoping for.

The FF franchise has one of the most divided fanbases out there. It's actually I think one of the series strong points, as it's due to the fact they are constantly trying new things. Not everything works for everyone, so they seem to make as many new haters as they do fans with each release. It's almost impressive really.

I honestly don't think FFXIII is any worse off in that department either. The hate might be a tad bit more vocal, but then that's the case for nearly everything these days thanks to much wider spread use of the internet.

Personally I'd place XIII somewhere in the middle of my FF titles. Not the best, not the worst, just decent. I really enjoyed FFXIII-2 though, if they could of tweaked the difficulty a bit or made it not so easy to overlevel with side quests it'd of been up there amongst of my favorites.
