Compile Heart's new Galapagos RPG: "Does not want to cater to the West"

Love their games. Wouldn't consider any of them MOE though.
I'm glad their games look different from the 1 art style western games tend to get stuck on.

I wouldn't even say the West has a set art style aside from the here and there exceptions like Journey Walking Dead, Borderlands, Costume Quest etc. Its barely one at that its mostly "PC like photo realism" which ends up usually "uncanny valley".
I don't mind that actually; just, not every game coming out has to be like that you know. Its too much sometimes. Though I do feel the same sometimes with the Eastern art style too. Its nice to have variety and diversity....

That's good news for their fans I guess. I'm not really into these games myself. The art style just isn't my thing.

Lol, another rpg from Compile Heart. gg

It would be awesome

Agreed, I'd love to see more of their games get localized. Their JRPGs are incredibly fun, especially the Agarest and Neptunia games.

Funny thing is this only affects those who care about region.

It's pointless to care about regional BS ... all i care about is if the game is fun to play. I know, it's a concept that doesn't seem to mean as much anymore.

That said, if Compile Heart WANTS to make a bigger deal out of region than the game itself than they obviously don't want me purchasing it. It's their call if they want to be ignorant or not.

She blinded me with region ....
Yuki Nagato, Mafuyu Oribe, Kurumu Korono, and Himari Noihara FTW

That's what I was referring to. Especially the Unreal Engine 3 games. >_<

It's a mixed signal probably lost in translation. Probably more like "we will stick to the design aesthetic that's been working for us and not outsource or redesign the look of our games to cater to Western ideals only"
Or basically, pretty much the same as to what developer Baba at Namco said earlier this year in regards to his Tales series.

The thing is, you can still manage to work out an art style even with that engine if you work with it enough and don't use its default ugly models; just look at Lollipop Chainsaw, Asura's Wrath, and the upcoming ninja zombie game Inafune is making....

Agreed. It's not just Japanese devs either. Alice Madness Returns looked absolutely stunning. Her hair especially, since most seem to use that plastic helmet-hair.
