Would you recommend starting from Metal Gear Solid 1 or Metal Gear 1+2?

Would you recommend a new comer who wants to experience all of Metal Gear series to

1. Start from Metal Gear 1 +2. And work the way up to MGS1, MGS2, MGS3,MGS4, PW, etc.

2. Start from MGS1. Continue working the way up. And then play the MG games

See a lot of people claim that the MGS games retcon parts of MG1+2, and that it isn't required to play them to understand MGS1. Not to mention people claiming that MGS1 takes a lot from MG2, including some story points.
Which for some people, could make the story of MGS1 more predictable, in some ways.

However, MG1+MG2 also have the background of Solid Snake, and how he became such a famous soldier and how a certain person was defeated in MG1+2. And you see more of Grey Fox's rivalry with snake, and the past Metal Gears.

I haven't ever beaten MG1 and 2 (I have no excuse other than laziness) but I don't feel like I've missed out on anything really important.

I don't know if they did retcon MG2 or not, but the MG2 that released in the US is completely different than the MG2 that released in Japan.

If you do plan on playing them all eventually, might as well start at the very beginning. Not really as much from a story standpoint, but more a gameplay mechanics issue. It will be harder to go back to the archaic play of the first 2 if you get used to the newer ones. So start with them, and let the gameplay progress as you do.

Start off with MG & MG2, if not wiki the plots, atleast twice each and take your sweet time. Enjoy MGS and the rest of the games.

Finally watch the MGSV trailer and be patient. Don't pull your hair like me.

Either would be fine to start with, but if you can't get into MG1/2, then go ahead and skip to Solid.

If you don't like the first MG though, I'd still recommend giving 2 a chance.
