I feel like the opposite. Elder Scrolls games are pretty damn good. Dark Souls and similar games just feel bland and archaic to me.

Enemies just so rarely are a true threat in SKyrim and Oblivion. But you can be killed by a torch dredgling in Demon's or Dark Souls if you but forget to raise a shield.

Skyrim's gameplay is basic, but it has things that only Bethesda brings us. Lively worlds and varied mission structure. Dragon's Dogma is unquestionably better in combat, but the world is fairly dead and all the side missions are "Kill X enemies" and "Escort this person here" for the most part.

I came to the exact same conclusion after playing those four titles.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone.
The armory of god is guarding me but all you can see is holographic artistry.

That's my issue with Oblivion/Skyrim.

You can do alot of things but you won't enjoy doing ANY of it. Gameplay is pretty dull to play and look at.

This. Loved it with oblivion but the formula gets stale fast. I expect the same thing from all their games now. Big lifeless worlds with an endless supply of menial tasks.

My hopes are with the witcher 3 at this point.

Those lifeless worlds are better that most of their peers, so it's only so bad.

I would suppose that is a matter of perception.

Combat was the only thing Dragon's Dogma did better than Skyrim. The world of Dragon's Dogma was dull and boring as heck compared to Skyrim's. There's no environmental changes at all and it's like 10% of the size of Skyrim's world. There's also less to do. I want to get Dark Arisen but I can't justify paying full retail for the same game I just bought a year ago. If it was DLC it woulda have been a day 1 purchase though. The story is also depressing as hell. I just want a plain old medieval story where I'm the chosen one going off to fight goblins and dragons and fighting armies, not Spoiler alert oh I'm the Arisen and the world will go to hell drakengard style if I kill the dragon and oh wait hi god.

Seriously, I wish they would make a Dragon's Dogma with Skyrim's size of world, and quests and things to do and a simple story like something from Capcom's Knights of the Round CPS1 Arcade game. GOTY right there Bethesda or Capcom or anyone who gives a damn about making good games.

Why are you apoligizing? You like what you like.
And that's good.

When Skyrim came out, no one could say anything bad about it here or they'd get bash. Then better games came out and people realize that Skyrim wasn't that great.

no the ps3 DLC thing happened it had nothing to do with anything but that gong show.

Also IMO skyrim > Dragons dogma, Dark souls, demon souls
