Who is the toughest video game boss ever? Optional or otherwise?

Apologies to Solnot and his topic about favorite bosses. But I think the toughest bosses need to be discussed about.

First off, I am going to spoil the optional boss of Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Survivor. So if you wanna play that game. Don't read ahead.

Hito Shura is, In my opinion. The toughest boss ever invented in the history of video games. You think fighting all the bosses of Dark Souls was bad? Well, imagine if all the bosses formed into one being that quite literally isn't even close to full power yet.

You have trained for this fight. You are level 99 with 99 in all stats for you and your party members entering this fight. This being, quite literally the ONLY way to fight him on even somewhat equal footing.

If you have the wrong skill tree he will kill you instantly, you attack a weakness in his party, he will kill you all, instantly. If the fight goes on for to long he will kill you instantly. I am not joking about this. It is just as insane as I am making it out to be.

He is the main character of SMT: Nocturne, and is the toughest JRPG boss in known history. To add insult to injury, the boss music for the fight is the normal battle theme in Nocturne. No... really. He considers you and your party nothing BUT a normal fight.

Worse yet... by not being at full power, I mean it, he i just around level 50 area in the boss fight when compared to a level 99 Hito Shura in Nocturne. I wish I was kidding.

For a final nail in the coffin, if you somehow defeat him, he just leaves a freaking note bragging about himself!

So yeah, I think I won the thread I started. Sorry about that folks.

So... yeah, who is the toughest boss you have ever faced?

People need to realize that games are art. Seriously, it's been proven over and over again. I think it's about time to people to man up and finally say this.

The hardest boss I've fought is The Mysterious Figure from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.

The toughest I recall ever facing was the hardmode boss for Star Ocean 2nd Story.

It's been a while, but IIRC it basically came down to having the right setup and it was still based entirely on luck. You needed something that had a chance to nullify damage and I think every hit you did to him had a tiny chance to kill him instantly.

Then there was also the post-game boss of Etrian Odyssey that would one-shot you if you didn't follow the exact sequence of defensive moves you were supposed to. I've never played Devil Survivor, but I think that beats it out.

Ninja Gaiden's(NES) boss was pretty absurd too.

I think you win...I came in thinking about action games, but this sounds worse than any bosses I've beaten through skill and tenacity.

I really should play the SMT games sometime.

Why? Because **** you is why.

You're a better man than I. I really wanted to 100% that game but I did not have the patience to deal with that fight.

Lucifer in Devil Survivor is a real prick, too.

Alma comes to mind for sure .

Honestly the boss I always HATED the most though was still Wrecksoul from FF6 SNES because they never told you about the whole spirit possession thing...

Honestly though I'd even say the Flamethrower boss from No More Heroes 2 on the max difficulty. That fight was just ridiculous O_o

That and Elizabeth from P3, needing the second life ability just to START the fight was really dumb never mind how hard the rest of the fight was.

I hope you don't mean Alma from Final Fantasy Tactics, because you can 1 shot her with Beowulf's Drain
