*reads basis for lawsuit*

yeah....good luck with that.....

McDonald's coffee cups say hi.

We're officially the biggest morons on the planet.

That was a legit lawsuit. Look up how hot the coffee actually was. It was insane. McDonald's did it to discourage refills. The elderly lady ended up with severe burns. The media is why most think it was frivolous and the suit has since become a joke.

The elderly lady was dumb enough to put it between her legs instead of in a cup holder.

It doesn't change the fact that the coffee was too hot. 3rd degree burns are no laughing matter. She may have derped by putting it between her legs, but it doesn't change the point of the lawsuit, which was the coffee was too hot.

The point is it's coffee. It's made with boiling water. Boiling water tends to be hot.

If you prepare a cup of instant coffee at home, then immediately spill it all over yourself, you will suffer similar burns. It's not the fault of the manufacturer of the coffee or your kettle.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that there are all kinds of ways to injure yourself if you have a momentary lapse in carefulness. If you trip and fall you can be just as badly injured and that can happen anywhere.

It was proved that McDonald's purposely served coffee at extreme temperatures to discourage refills. That's why they lost the lawsuit.

I've spilled coffee on my lap many times from places like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, and while it does sting, it does not cause permanent damage when served at appropriate temperatures.

McDonald's was absolutely in the wrong, since they never advertised their the fact that their serving temperatures were a LOT higher than normal.

I liked the game. Played through it twice, played some multiplayer, never really got the overwhelming hate. Didn't even encounter any glitches. Strong title. *shrug* To each their own, but this lawsuit seems petty.

All of those restaurants have been sued in much the same manner, though. McDonalds has also been sued over this many other times and in most cases it has been dismissed.

Really, it seems like the only reason that case was successful was colossal mishandling of the trial on McDonalds' part.
