I'm planning on getting my second PS3 soon, after my 80gb model which I bought in 2009 is showing symptoms of YLOD. This is the first time that I have to buy another console that I already owned, and I really feel bad for that.

So any of you guys planning or had bought more than one PS3's too? How many had you owned and why?

I bought a slim back in the spring of 2011, my first PS3, and it's still working just fine.

Also, for an FYI, what are some of the symptons of an impending YLOD? lol

The video chip of my launch model failed, got a new fat model as it was thankfully still under warranty.

In 2011 the disc drive of this replacement unit failed, so i bought a Slim model, which is still working perfectly fine!

But since i'm trying to skip the next generation entirely i went a little nervous and bought a spare Slim (not Super Slim) just before the prices went up

If your PS3 dies (and assuming you've backed up all your save game files), is getting a new PS3 as simple as starting it up and just logging in like normal? Obviously you have to re-install your games, but are the system settings and everything carried over?
