The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of something that is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions of hope.
Can't really go wrong with the Shin Megami Tensei series of games. Yakuza is another good series.
That's about the extent of good Japanese games I can think of in the last several years.
Big Money. Big Women. Big Fun.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for it's story is like watching porn for it's story.

I don't care if people say it's not an RPG, but if you want a japanese-esque game, you can't go much farther than Okami.
Other than that, the best JRPG's you could get on PS3 are:
Tales games (Graces F, Xillia and most likely Xillia 2(and Vesperia if you like importing and reading japanese), excellent combat system and decent content)
Atelier games (despite it targeting a female audience, great if you like it turn based and if you can forgive the moments that remind you they didn't have much budget)
Ni No Kuni (if you don't mind a shallow combat system and if you like bestiaries a la pokemon)
Valkyria Chronicles (Battle System is broken IMO, but the presentation more than makes up for it. Strategy based.)
Final Fantasy XIII (Great presentation, don't expect the same style as previous games in the series)
I have high hopes for Time and Eternity, Fairy Fence F and the next Tales game, all coming on PS3.
As said before, getting a 3DS would be wise, since you'll find many
already released(Fire Emblem: Awakening, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Etryan Odyssey 4, Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts 3D)
and upcoming (Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Shin Megami Tensei 4,The Legend of Zelda : A link to the past 2, Pokemon X/Y)
JRPGs(yes, I know some will say some of those aren't JRPGs, but you can't deny they all have a japanese style).
I could recommend JRPGs for other systems, if you wish.
