Okay, in your opinion which system has the best selection of jrpgs?

Graphics mean very little to my niece. It's all about the story/combat.

I read the ps2 will play ps1s. Now is that option available for the newer models?

She won't be able to d\l any games off the ps store. The benefits of living out in the boonies.

So yeah, what do you recommend?

Thanks!

Can't go wrong with either. Both have a large number of amazing JRPGs.
If you're getting both (eventually), I'd start w/ the PS2.

The PS3 has a selection of nice RPGs? Let alone a LARGE one?

Just get a PS2. Having both the PS2 and PSX library makes the PS2 godlike for RPGs.

PS2 is far better than PS3 in terms of JRPGs. Wider selection and better quality.
Only downside is that it's hard to find PS2 games these days unless you shop online.

All PS2s and PS3s play PS1 games.

say what!? I had no clue my ps3 could play ps1s. (outside of psn store)
oh my! you have just made my day.

That aside. Considering graphics mean nothing. Buy a ps2... it's less money you will be spending and the selection of GOOD jrpgs is just insane.

Tough call. PS3 has better JRPGs (gameplay/music/story), but the PS2 has more and is cheaper.

Wow. The first half couldn't be more wrong.

PS2>PS3 because of the sheer number of releases.

PS3>PS2 for the variety though. Most PS1/PS2 RPGs were trying to horn in on Final Fantasy's success. Also, there RPGs nowadays are made to be more appealing to girls than they were in the past(particularly the Atelier and Rune Factory titles).

DS beats them both out IMO. Comparable number of releases to PS2 with a much larger variety. I'd honetly recommend a 3DS.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for it's story is like watching porn for it's story.

I'm a Jrpg freak, as you can see by my user name.

If you don't care about graphs, Ps2, definately. It has the best, most varies, widest collection.

Although outside of FF, JRPG's arn't really known for pushing the ps3's boundaries in terms of visuals, I guess...

On Ps3 you could pick up Tales of Graces F, Eternal Sonata, Valkaryia Chronicles. But that's te best we have really.
