Looking back why Gamers accepted 599.99 price point?

What did they think of their fanbase? to casually say 599.99
US Dollars?

PLAYSTATION 4 $299.99

They were arrogant. Simple, really.

It still sold.

Some people were actually willing to pay that price, but apparently not enough to be profitable.

If you're not going to share with the entire class, then don't bother sharing at all.
Online is the worst thing to happen to gaming.

We know that but this is about the gamers, what did they think of the entire
ps fanbase to do this to them?.

Who ever was running Sony at the time clearly wanted to kill PS brand
To win a Format War, so messed up.

or it just cost them almost that much to make each PS3 and it's not a good idea to sell something below there development cost unless you want to lose money

Swann:This is the last time.I'm tired of running damage control every time he makes a mess
Campbell:Right. You're the control, and if that fails,I'm the damage

130 million Playstation 2s sold. That's what made them think they could do it.

The format thing was a risk, the same risk they made on DVD and the PS2. When the PS2 first came out, DVD players were still over $1,000.

Like the PS2, PS3 was the cheapest available device to play the new format.

Not in the US. They were pricey in early 1997 but by 2000 good DVD players were in the $300 range and budget players could be had for under $100.

You gotta admit though, the Blu-Ray drive makes the price a shade more reasonable.

Gamers are too reactionary. Games are like fine wine, they must linger for us to get their true taste. There are plenty of examples.
