Why do so many people praise RDR, and bash GTA4?

What is it about RDR, that makes it so much better than GTA4? Considering that in most topics, GTA4 is deemed as "crap".

Edit: I beat RDR a year back, but only played GTA4 briefly 3-4 years ago.

GTAIV is dull. RDR is not dull.

gta 4 was way more empty plus the characters I thought were more in depth and other than that the main story line it was one big dead world and there were no collectibles other than those dumb birds plus the mini games sucked. So the story was the only good thing it was a big step down from san andreas and compared to saint row witch came out at the same time it was truly a boring experience when you look at the huge wardrobe and massive amount of stuff to find. But gta5 looks like a true return to form so I cant wait for mp, the jets and building my own crib in the new one look like great fun.

what lol? Hmm a city setting packed with ppl and vehicles and then a western setting game out in the barren wilderness where its mostly empty 99% of everywhere.....

I mean I love RDR but to say GTA4 is more empty is downright silly

What I think he meant is that RDR has a lot more to do in it's world. There's a lot more reason to explore and look around the world, whereas to a lot of people Liberty City just doesn't give that same feeling

I like both games but RDR better. Story, gameplay, missions, are all better in my opinion. Maybe it's because I like western movies and have never played an open world western like RDR before. GTA 4 is fun but I have already played games like it before. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are all better to me.

they both felt about the same to me but the big thing is that RDR is supposed to feel like that because of the setting and GTA is not, and we know what a good GTA is supposed to be like because of the previous ones.
