I like games and I even liked anime quite a bit during my high-school years yet the fans of both of those make me never go near conventions and the like for them(which I've been invited to many, many times). God forbid I meet some of the people who type some of the crazy crap I read from those fanbases. I like those things and enjoy going deeper into what makes certain things work and not work yet people within these fanbases go fanatical pretty quickly and make me dread talking to them.
It would be awesome to meet cool people with level headed opinions on games in my city yet I would never go to a LaN or something along those lines because I expect it to be akin to the pro Call of Duty videos where everyone is cussing at each other and can't have a decent conversation about games or otherwise. Most people I have met who like games are very anal about what they like and don't like and everything they don't like might as well be considered objectively(to them) as crap.
Maybe it's just me yet most people I have met who enjoy games can't appreciate a game for being a quality title even if they themselves don't like the title. Example, I don't like God of War, it's just not my kind of game, are they bad? No not really.
Most people I've met can't even muster that. If they don't like said title it's bad, s**t or outright terrible with no in between.
