We need more games with wind waker/ni no kuni/ rime graphics

These games are just beautiful to stare at while playing. Although Rime hasn't even come out yet, the trailer was awesome eye candy.

I make it a point to play the console zelda games at least once yearly, and wind waker seems to never age for me in terms of graphics.

Yes we do. RIME was such a breath of fresh air at Gamescon.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is that people don't buy it. If games that actually looked nice sold well, there'd be more of them. It's gritty realism that sells and that's why every game looks like that. Other art style are "too kiddy".

I'd be fine, as long as they don't come with lighthearted, childish, cartoony themes and storylines.

I have no problem with colorful visuals, I'd just prefer something with a more serious and dark tone. A game like Darksiders, Final Fantasy XV, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, God of War, Lords of Shadow, ect... with colorful graphics would not be a problem for me at all.

But if you gave me the choice, I'd take a Twilight Princess over a Wind Waker any goddamn day.

"Cute" in an RPG is a kiddy euphemism for "Sexy".
Online is the worst thing to happen to gaming.

The thing is basically every game not made by Nintendo is like this these days. Not every game needs to be gritty and dark.

Though actually, from the nighttime scene of RIME where he's waving the flaming branch around, I'm not sure that game will be all smiles and sunshine either.

That's a pretty small list, and most of them are niche. Cel shaded is one of my favorite type of graphics, and I'm glad we have games like Zelda and Borderlands attempting to make it more mainstream.

I would love more cel-shaded games. There needs to be a big AAA action game that uses it, so that people realize there's more to gaming than just dark, gritty titles.

I don't think it's possible to make a "big" game that uses it, because a lot of people will refuse to buy it because of its art style.

I mean, what else prevents something like Sly Cooper or Okami from being big? They're well known by gamers, but they just don't have great selling power outside of hardcore gamers.

I'm a big fan of the cel shaded style when done right. Try the Fear Effect series if you can, it's old school, ps1, tank controlled, survival horror goodness that I think got overlooked.

I don't think it's impossible. There could easily be a GoW-style action game or an open-world game using such an art-style. Borderlands is AAA and uses cel-shading.

I don't know about Okami, but I know that Sony doesn't advertise a lot of its exclusives (I hate that they only advertise GoW and ND games) which is probably why Sly isn't big.
