I usually love most JRPG's I play, and i STILL find most of the GTA games fun, Hell when I got GTAIV, after a while I would go online with it quite a few times a day for a long while, only reason I stopped is cause I got wrapped up in more games, and a few weeks back traded it in towards V, which I know will take up a lot of gaming time when it's out, especially when the Online is released....

They should admit that they don't like GTA. It's as simple as that.
For instance, I don't like soccer games (brazilian here). I don't like Fifa 2013. Do I say it is a bad game? Of course not.
Now in the other hand I have a thing with SRPGs, no matter how grindy or silly they are. I like Disgaea. Do I go all willy nilly telling everyone that it is a good game and they should try it? Of course not, I realize it's a mediocre game that I just happen to like.
I hate it when people here very casually pass off sports games like FIFA, NHL. NBA2K, Madden etc. just because they are sports games. There have been times this gen where I've had more fun and spent more time playing sports games then what people here would consider actual games.
I buy most yearly installments of sports games and they have been the solid anchor to consoles this gen, not the exclusives, time and again.
It's just that I don't dig soccer games, but I know that they ARE good games. I have friends who love the FIFA series and all in all I see that the last few games are so good that they actually surpassed Pro Evolution Soccer. --- Your childhood was good, but not objectively better than others'.

I try to play a JRPG about once every five years, but the same thing happens to me every time. I get about an hour in and wonder why I hate it when so many love it, then I realize that it was made for a 12 year old Japanese boy so I stop playing. --- Last Played: Rayman Origins (9/10) Now Playing: NCAA Football 2014, StarCraft 2, KZM Beta, Civ V, Sonic Generations, Guacamelee El Diablo's Domain, Spelunky

I like most genres, but I could never get into GTA. I just don't find driving around and killing people to be so enjoyable.
Although I did enjoy inFamous 1 and 2, so I do like some sandbox titles. --- 3DS FC: 2105- 9580- 9704 PSN: tennislover3195 Steam:LunarFantasy Official Feraligatr of the Pokemon X board

It's because Jrpgs hold your hand throughout the entire experience whereas something like GTA allows you to go about as you please.
Kind I like taking a guided tour vs. wandering around on your own.
A linear story and sandbox world are two different things, neither have much to do with holding a players hand through a game. --- A heretic among heretics.

I may be the only one in the world that likes and play every genres there is... I really don't get how people can stick to one genre only, you're missing out on so much.
I'm the same way. Can play anything from Madden to Dark Souls to Neptunia to Gran Turismo to XCOM. I'll never understand why people limit themselves.
Some people just don't like certain genres. Personally, I don't care for any role-playing, fighting, driving, sports, or survival horror games. My favorite genres are action and adventure. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not forcing myself to play games that don't interest me. Something like Ni No Kuni (or whatever it is) would be a complete and total waste of money for me.
