I've been thinking of purchasing one for awhile, and my PS2 finally decided to crap out on me today. I would go ahead and just purchase a PS4, but I really want to get FFX/X2 HD, and Dark Souls II.

Is there enough life left in the PS3 to justify purchasing one this late into its lifespan, or should I just hold out for a PS4 and hope that FFX and Dark Souls II are eventually able to be played on it digitally?

yes there is enough left if you've never owned it. But the PS4 is going to be the mainstream system for another 10 years. I think once DESTINY comes out for PS4, that will spell the end of the PS3 community

A lot.

Now is probably the best time to get one. PS4 has no games. PS3 has nearly its entire library available.

Granted, if you're only getting the PS3 for two games, it's not worth it. But if you're getting one to play games from it's entire library, I'd do that over getting a PS4. PS4 isn't going to have a decent library for at least 2 more years. You get one now, and it's little more than a glorified paperweight, it'll sit around unused more often then not.

PS3 is also still getting good games, there's a quality upcoming release lineup for the system well into 2015

Do you judge games based on what they are? Or what they aren't?

Hah. But the original poster still plays his PS2 (I presume) as it just died on him. So he's worried about how much life the PS3 has left? Odd.

I'd say it's on its deathbed and will be fully dead by next year.

A better choice than the PS4, for sure. The best time to buy a console is around the time that the next generation comes out, that's when its library of games is largest and also cheapest.
