The Souls series. Those games are complete ass. Cant believe people think they are hard let alone good lololol

You are like a 100% representation of the new generation of gaming. You don't like the Souls games, but you love The Last of Us. That's like.....completely against the opinions of the traditional hardcore gamers.

I'm a traditional hardcore gamer, dislike the Souls games, and liked The Last of Us. Amazing how opinions can differ that much.

In case you wonder why I dislike them, it's the forced online PvP combined with the "lose all your XP-equivalent" aspect. The actual gameplay? It's decent. I could dig it. Forced PvP and a penalty system for dying that's that harsh isn't my cup of tea.

And yeah, forced PvP. I've heard people go "Oh, you don't have to go online if you stay a zombie the whole time" but then you can't light bonfires or refill your healing items or even see your guy as you friggin' designed them.

Thing is that you new gamers harbor much resentment against real video games. All they're concerned about is graphics. Modern casual gamers like My_Unit, all they care about are graphics, and want their games to be super linear, streamlined, casual easy, no puzzles because they're too hard, and they don't like to use strategy or have to really think about what they're doing.

From a video gamer perspective, the Souls series is top tier. The Souls series represents gaming very well. Remember the film with Tom Hanks, "Big", remember the video game he's playing at the beginning? Yeah, that film was made in 1988.

Here is a pic of the game he is playing:

The game never existed in real life but I guess someone made a playable version:

Sorcery, hidden passageways, monsters, demons, etc. have always been a huge part of video games. Not sure why new gamers just want dudebro shooters that don't have any actual substance in them. I like to think and I like games that are engaging, with a sense of discovery, adventure, mystery, doom and gloom, morbid, and with a thick atmosphere. That's why the Souls games are amazing and there hasn't been a bad one yet.

I trimmed out the fecal matter from your post to focus on the interesting part. You should check this out, too:

Yeah, some people made a working version of the game from The Last Starfighter. I still need to try it at some point.

I like that people who grew up with movies like these are making "the games from the movies we never got."

It's all opinion, bro. I'm as traditional as they come. I started gaming at 3 years old on an NES. In fact, I think I came into consciousness when I knocked out Bald Bull in Punch-Out! for the first time. I don't like the Souls games either. That doesn't mean they're not good, well-made games. They're just not my cup of tea. There is a difference between what you personally like/ don't like, and what's objectively bad.

Gamers are too reactionary. Games are like fine wine, they must linger for us to get their true taste. There are plenty of examples.
