Tales of Symphonia is the only other Tales game that I've played, and I haven't even played much of it(I had only done the first couple of dungeons) but I seemed to suck at it pretty badly for some reason, maybe I wasn't blocking enough or something, I have no idea. Maybe it's probably because I hadn't gotten used to it yet, who knows.

Anyways, I'm hoping that the battling is better in Graces F, I'm planning on getting it and I was just wondering how much better/worse it is than Symphonia. I'm not even sure what type of questions to ask about it, are the controls laid out better than they are in Symphonia? Also what are some good general battle strategies in general? Like I said before, I've never REALLY played one of these games before. The only one I messed around with was Radiant Mythology, but that game seem to play just a little bit differently than Symphonia, cause I sort of struggle with Symphonia, but I didn't with RM.

Best action RPG combat in the entire genre, but can't even reach the low bar of pretty good in any other aspect of the game.

That helps I guess, lol. I haven't played too many ARPGs other than some of the earlier Ys games, Alundra(I don't consider it an RPG) and maybe Illusion of Gaia.

There is a demo (a very poor one) in the japanese psn. Its one of the most boring segments of the post game but you can kinda understand how the battle system works by playing it.

A huge improvement. In Symphonia you can't even free run.

Much more active than Symphonia's snail paced 2D centric shallow combat.
The Last of Us is the greatest game in the last decade. There is no argument. Number of people who agree - 410

Vastly different, and better IMO.
Being a fan of Survival Horror and seeing people love games like Dead Space, is like being a fan of vampires and seeing people like Twillight.

I just watched a few battle videos on YouTube. It definitely looks like a lot of fun, especially once you unlock more artes. I'm guessing that the number next to the character's photo is your CC meter?

Symphonia is a port of a GameCube game. You really think they wouldn't improve combat for a game made for Wii and then ported to PS3? Graces F has much better combat than either Xillia game or any Tales game for that matter.
