Unofficial Twilight Princess FAQ and help topic V2.0

Welcome! I created this topic to answer some of the questions that get asked far too often on this board. Feel free to ask more, of course, preferably on this topic.

Note that this is NOT a complete guide, so don't treat it as one. It's merely here to help you get through some troublesome things in the game.

This topic may contain spoilers. I avoided them in the FAQs themselves, but someone might say something which contains spoilers. Read at your own risk.
I also avoided using proper names for everything in the game, as newbies may get confused by those. Therefore, you won't see Twilight Messengers and such appearing.

Feel free to contribute to the topic, but try not to screw it up.

Before I start on the actual FAQ, one question that doesn't belong anywhere:

Q: What are the differences between the Wii and GCN versions?
A:
Wii
-The entire game is mirrored. This is to better accommodate right-handed Wii players.
- Uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuck attachment. This is quite advantageous when aiming.
- No lag or slowdown whatsoever. Everything is fluid (the other version does slow down occasionally). This includes loading times, they're much shorter in the Wii version.
- Wii Remote usages include interactive fishing, menu cursors, and the Rollgoal minigame.
- More items on screen at once. You can carry two more spots, with the B button using the active item.
- The game is available in widescreen.
- Early versions of the game have a glitch that can stop your progress. It's not all that likely to happen though, just make sure you know what it is.
- There is an exclusive enemy and item in this version - Green Chu (when Yellow and Blue Chus fuse). They drop Green Chu Jelly. It's actually really useless, but it's just an easter egg. Purple Chus take their spot in the GameCube version, and thus their jelly can't be gotten (unless you have Action Replay).
- Spin attack done by shaking the Nunchuk.Rapid Spinning not possible.

GameCube
- Uses the GameCube controller. Aiming is very stiff compared to the Wii version.
- You can backflip off of Epona at any time. In the Wii version, you can only do it while enemies are around.
- The C-Stick can move the camera. You can only center on the Wii.
- Spin attack done by holding B and releasing, or by rotating the analog stick and pressing B. Rapid Spinning possible with second method.

Miscellaneous
- They have a slightly different demo movie.
- Several non-harmful glitches in each version. Mostly the ability to do a Long Jump Attack in the GameCube version.

A.The main quest

Q:How do I herd the goats?
A: It's elementary, really. Simply go around them, then run towards the barn, and any goat you come across will turn and run in front of you. When they're running the right way, press A to 'whoop' them, which makes them run faster. Just takes some getting used to.

Q: How do I obtain the slingshot?
Q: How do I get the cradle?
Q: How do I get the cat to go home?
Etc.

A: This seems to be a major problem for most people; the very beginning. I'll explain everything. First off, as you enter the village from Link's house, hold right, past the house, keeping to the side of the water. You should see a rock structure covered in vines (a man will yell at you from above when you approach it). Climb up here, then jump across the platforms to the very last one. Here, blow on the Hawk Grass, and send the Hawk across the water, to the creature jumping around in the distance. When done correctly, you'll obtain the cradle. Bring it to the woman standing next to the small pier in the middle of the village, then follow her home to obtain the Fishing Rod. Now, find the pier with the cat in the village, and cast your rod on that pier. NOTE: Fishing is explained next. Anyway, catch two fish, and the cat will run off. Go to the house it went into, and buy the Slingshot (look around the village to get Rupees). All done! ^_^

Q: How do I bobber fish?
A: Ah yes, the horror of first-time bobber fishing. Instead of explaining it all, I'm going to direct you to a great vid: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CQ24lvZzmxk
That vid will show you exactly how to bobber fish. Good luck!

Q: Why does that bird in the shop keep attacking me?
A: You didn't pay him when you bought something. After taking one of his items, he wants you to pay him by dropping Rupees into his basket. Refuse to do so, and he'll attack you when you next come into his shop. Note that you can pay 1 Rupee, and it'll all be fine, he'll just call you cheap.

Q: How do I beat the three monsters in the Twilight?
A: First off, bash them a bit until Midna comes back. When she's back, defeat one of the monsters, then hold B, and get both other monsters to enter the circle around you (they can leave, but they must have entered it once), then release B. You'll kill them both.

Q: Why can't I pick up the Tears of Light?
A: You need to have the Vessel of Light to pick those up. To get it, visit the spring in the beginning of Faron Woods, and talk to the golden, glittering thing hovering over it.

Q: I'm missing [insert number here] bugs, and I can't find them.
A: Check your map, they're all indicated. If you still can't find them, check a walkthrough.

Q: How do I get past the Goron? He keeps ramming me!
A: You're not supposed to go past him yet. Leave the area, then go back to the starting village. The Mayor will explain everything.

Q: How do I beat King Bulblin on his boar?
A: This is not a Boss FAQ. Check a guide.

Q: How do I get the Hawkeye?
A: Go to the highest point in Kakariko (you can't miss it, it's the huge lookout tower) and talk to the kid on top. Finish the minigame, and the Hawkeye will be for sale at Malo Mart in town.

Q: I'm stuck on the south side of Eldin Bridge! I saved at the north end, but now I can't get back across!
A: I'm sorry, you've encountered one of two game-ending glitches. You're stuck permanently. The only way to go on is to start a new file. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT save on the north end of the bridge before entering the next area!

Q: How do I escort the carriage?
A: It's quite simple, I don't see how so many people have trouble with this. Simply put, use Spin attacks to destroy any Bokoblins on their boars, and your Gale Boomerang to stop the birds. If the carriage catches fire, Z-target it and throw your Boomerang at it to put the fire out.

Q: I did all that, but the carriage is going in circles!
A: The birds only drop bombs at the split. If the carriage gets hit, it will veer off course and go in a circle. Simply hit the bird before that point.

Q: How do I find and defeat the Skull Kid in the woods?
A: Again, this is not a Boss FAQ. Check a guide.

Q: How do I solve the puzzle with the two guardian statues?
A: Left-Down-Right-Right-Up-Left-Up-Up-Left-Down-Down-Right-Up.

Q: How do I defeat three or more of those Twilight monsters as Hylian Link?
A: Use Spin Attacks on the last two.

Q: How do I fix Eldin Bridge?
A: The missing part is in Gerudo Desert. Go there and look for the huge white rock sticking out in the distance. Go there and climb up to it, then warp it back to Eldin Bridge.

Q: How do I catch a reekfish?
A: First off, get Ashei's Sketch by going to Snowpeak. Show it to Prince Ralis, who is in Kakariko's Graveyard (the back area, where you got the Zora Tunic earlier) and he'll give you the Coral Earring, which is a hook for your Fishing Rod. Now go catch a Reekfish (you can't miss them, they're bright red) in Zora's domain.

Q: How do I catch all the cats for the minigame in the Hidden Village?
A: I'm not going to give you exact locations. They're everywhere. Just look around, check every little corner, destroy every destroyable object, and make sure to visit all second stories on two-story houses.

Q: I'm stuck in the Cannon room! I saved in there, and now Midna's telling me she can't warp the cannon because Shad's there, but he's not!
A: I'm very sorry, but this is the second of two game-ending glitches. You'll have to start a new file. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT save in the Cannon room before warping the cannon!

Q: I finished the game, but I couldn't save afterwards! Is that right?
A: Yes, it is. There's no save option after beating the game because there's nothing new after beating the game anyway.

B.The dungeons

Q: How do I beat [Boss name here]?
A: This is not a Boss FAQ. Check a guide.

Q: I can't find the last of the four monkeys!
A: Look around. There are two possible monkeys you could have missed.
-The one in the room with the giant plant enemy. If you beat it, you get a key, which unlocks the gate with the monkey.
-The one in the room with the tile monsters. Roll into the pillars in the beginning of the room to get a key, and use it on the gate at the other end.

Q: I missed a Heart Piece in the Forest Temple, but now I can't get to the room because the monkeys are gone!
A: Wait until you've done the third dungeon, then come back and go across using the Clawshot.

Q: I'm having trouble with the rotating stairs in the Lakebed Temple.
A: Check a walkthrough. Seriously, I can't help you with this. Just explore and pull some switches, and eventually, the stairs will go the way you want them to.

Q: How do I go past the first room with the huge stalactites falling down?
A: Use Bomb Arrows to blast the other stalactites, they'll create platforms.

Q: I'm stuck in the Arbiter's grounds. Link's just standing still, and I can't press any buttons. If I press -, the text 'can't be skipped' appears. Help?
A: You're stuck. This is a commonly-known problem with the Arbiter's Grounds. You'll have to reset. SAVE before starting this dungeon so you're safe.

Q: Why is Link moving like he has the Iron Boots on?
A: Because there are monsters clinging to you. Use Wolf Link's senses to see them. (The same happens if there are scarabs on you, just spin attack to kill those)

Q: I can't solve the block puzzles in Snowpeak Ruins!
A: Check the maps, they're explained there.

Q: I'm stuck in the City in the Sky, I have no clue where to go!
Q: Where is the Boss Key in the City in the Sky?
Q: How do I get to the boss in the City in the Sky?
Etc.

A: I can't believe how often this is asked. I can't give you a precise guide, for that, you'll have to resort to a walkthrough, but I can give you something. The Boss Key is located in the Central area, above the big four-way room (the one with the huge helmed lizard in the middle). To get to the Boss, you have to drop through the fan up there, then activate a Chandelier in that four-way room. This will deactivate a fan, allowing you access to the Northern Tower, where the boss resides. The only thing I can say is: explore! This is a big, confusing dungeon after all.

Q: How do I beat those hands in the Palace of Twilight?
A: You're not supposed to. They'll try to grab the Orb you're carrying around, so don't let them, or you'll have to go back and get it. Simply create a path to carry it back to the first (outside) room. If you have to, you can stun the hand by shooting it three times with the bow.

Q: Do I go left or right in Hyrule Castle (the inside area)?
A: Doesn't matter. They lead to the same point. The left path is easier though, for most people.

C.Sidequests

Q: I'm missing a Heart Piece somewhere.
A: Go to Hyrule Castle Town, South Road, eastern branch, and enter the house there. There should be a fortuneteller in there. She'll show you an approximate location of a Heart Piece you don't have yet, so check a guide to see what she's showing you.

Q: How do I get to the chest south of Castle Town, in the middle of the pond?
A: This appears to be the most common question on this board. There are two small towers behind the Chest. On the west one, there is a clawshot target. Go up there. Up here, you'll see a Spinner track, so get your Spinner out and get on that track. When you're level with the chest, jump using the B button, and you'll land near the chest. Open it to get an Orange Rupee.

Q: Where is the Cave of Ordeals?
A: In the Gerudo Desert, under the missing part of Eldin Bridge. Warp there, or find that bridge part.

Q: I'm missing a Poe somewhere.
A: Check a guide for their locations. I can't help you with this. In fact, no one can. Make a checklist of the Poes you're not certain you have, and check those places.

Q: How do I get the Goron on the west bridge out of Castle Town to leave?
A: First off, donate 1000 Rupees in Kakariko Village to the elder Goron in Malo Mart. Then, talk to the other elder Goron out front of the Mart, then go talk to that Goron on the bridge. Now return to the Goron in front of Malo Mart, and agree to his proposal. Carry the Springwater to the Goron on the bridge, and throw it on him. Hint: stay near the side of the cliff, that way, no monsters will pop out of the sand.

Q: I'm missing a hidden skill!
Q: I did one howling stone before another, and now I skipped a skill!
Q: I can't find the Golden Wolf!

A: As for finding the hidden skill or Golden wolf, check every howling stone and Wolf location using a checklist. Skills can't be missed. This also goes for the second question. There is NO way to skip a skill, so just go back to the missed howling stone

Q: I skipped a howling stone, and now I'm Hylian Link again and I can't go back! Please help?
A: Again, you can't miss any skills. You'll be a wolf again later, go back then.

Q: How do I obtain the Sinking Lure?
A: First of all, you must have caught a pike, bass and catfish while lure fishing (LURE, not bobber). Also, you must have the Coral Earring. Then, go to the highest point on the West shore, or the east edge of the south bank of the fishing pond, and use your bobber rod. After some tries, you should get the lure.

Q: Is anything missable in this game?
A: No, except for one letter. To get it, I think you have to use Ooccoo in the second dungeon but not in the first. I'm not sure though.

There, all done. I'll sticky request this now. Thanks for all the support in the other topic, I've closed that one.
Hopefully this FAQ is complete now. I think I got all the common questions, and the layout improved since the other topic too.
