What's this game like compared to AC5 and AC4?

Can anyone tell me what differences there are between this game and AC5? (and AC4, but I assume this game is closer to AC5) Other than the missions and story being different of course. I have mixed feelings on the some of the changes AC5 made over AC4 and was wondering if Ace Combat Zero likewise made changes over AC5, and whether they are an improvement.
Ace Combat 4: You have no wingman, your plane can always fly to a resupply zone to stock up and change weapons. Ace Combat 5: You have 3 wingmen, the planes are limited to one special weapon to balance it, and you can't resupply unless it's part of the story. Giving a yes/no answer alters the missions you get next for a couple of occasions. Ace Combat Zero: You have 1 wingman. You cannot change their plane, but can choose 1 of three special weapons their planes have. Each plane itself has 3 special weapons, but you can only pick one of them for a mission, just like in AC4. There are a lot of missions where you can resupply. The game introduces the Mercenary/Soldier/Knight system, in which the storyline and enemies are affected based on how you play. -If you decide to just destroy everything you can in order to get the most money, the meter slides to Mercenary. You'll get more money, but you also fight the hardest enemy squadrons. -If you only focus on targets and green enemies, the meter turns to Knight. The enemies are generally easier since you're not earning as much money. -If you can balance between those two, the meter will stay in the soldier range. All three of them have different enemy squadrons you will encounter, and affects the comm chatter you hear. For example, in the 2nd mission, your wingman will mention how there are civilian houses down below you. If you're in mercenary mode, he'll suggest that they're probably housing enemy units and supplies, and should be destroyed. If you're in Knight mode, he mentions that possibility, but tells HQ that you probably don't know if you can destroy them. In soldier, he says it's up to you to make the call. It's actually kinda fun to mix and match. Make radical shifts in the meter so you encounter numerous different enemy squadrons in the story. Gameplay wise, nothing significant really changes. Pretty much just what I described above in regards to wingmen, weapons, and refueling. The story is absolutely incredible btw. --- Meowahaha! "Giving a yes/no answer alters the missions you get next for a couple of occasions." whoa, I didn't even know that about AC5. I guess that means I haven't played all the story missions yet. Anyway since making this thread it occurred to me that if AC Zero has the button problem of AC5 then I don't even want to bother. So in other words it all comes down to that. Problem is I'm not sure anyone can tell me as I haven't seen anyone mention the button problem at all except me so it's like I'm the only one who notices it to begin with. Come to think of it, this may mean I might have to get AC Zero anyway just to find out. :i
Yeah, you care to explain what this button problem is? --- Meowahaha! Madness, Genius, the only difference between them is success! - Taokaka, Blaz Blue Continuum Shift
pressure sensitive buttons When I press a button, it doesn't work, I have to press it hard to make it work. The X, O, square and triangle buttons are affected. Even the menu/title screens have this. (I press the button to pick Load or Campaign from the menu, nothing happens) AC4 doesn't have this, that's for sure. to be fair, I use a Logitech PS2 controller not a Sony one. But never noticed it in any other game, all of a sudden notice it with AC5. I doubt the controller is wearing out, because I briefly played a copy of AC5 last year and I seem to recall experiencing the problem even then. I could switch game to re-confirm this, and I think I will anyway.
It sounds to me like the third party controller is the entire problem. In all the time since the release of both AC5 and ACZ I have never seen a similar complaint about a genuine Sony controller in either forum. Personally, I think the most commonly used functions associated with the pressure sensitive aspects of the buttons are routine and work fairly well; I can think of only one or two scenarios where use of pressure sensitivity in these games might pose a challenge for a typical user.
Yeah the controller is the problem, not the game. --- Meowahaha! Madness, Genius, the only difference between them is success! - Taokaka, Blaz Blue Continuum Shift
Well, that would explain why it's not mentioned anywhere. Question is, why would the controller be the problem.. Maybe the game devs hate third party controllers. Or maybe the game recognizes that it's not the default controller, and thus assumes I'm using a flight stick. (which kind of makes sense in that the flight stick didn't come out until AC5, not AC4) In either of those theories it seems the game is able to tell whether I'm using a Sony controller or not...
ok, I hooked up the regular PS2 controller to determine whether it's the problem. It seems like the problem exists anyway, but less of a factor when using PS2 controller which have more delicate buttons than the Logitech. What makes it more difficult to tell however is that in AC5 arcade mode I noticed that when you press the button there is a half-second (or more) delay before the weapon actually fires. This applies to both missiles and bullets. Not because of a control delay, but because the F-22 has to wait for the missile compartment to open. Even the bullets fires out of hatch that has to open first. sigh
So..... You don't want to play the game due to realism? That's how the planes actually work in real life. --- Meowahaha! Madness, Genius, the only difference between them is success! - Taokaka, Blaz Blue Continuum Shift |
