Cursed Shield

Do Magic Urn battles in the cultists' tower count as battles for the cursed shield? They flee so they don't count in the bestiary, but does that matter?

Do you get AP? If so, then it should. Although, it may not actually uncurse if they flee. Then again, I may be completely wrong, and it doesn't count. So, I guess this post is basically a waste of time.

I think you're slightly misunderstanding the the AP thing...

Fights without AP can still uncurse the Shield. Dragon's Den is an example of this, as I've twice uncursed the shield in that dungeon (two separate playthroughs!) and none of the enemies give AP there.

The AP thing is merely just a check the game makes, I believe, as to whether it counts for the characters. This is why Gogo gets skipped; Gogo cannot gain AP, so the game treats him like the shield is never actually there. Its a weird means of association, and there was probably some programming logic behind it that got overlooked in regards to Gogo (probably something to do with saving space, cause I know FF6 was cutting any corners possible just to get the entire game to fit onto one cart, so programming it this way probably saved a few lines of coding), but either way, you can still get Cursed SHield credit without gaining AP, since its related in a different sense that only matters for Gogo vs. Not Gogo (it'd matter for Umaro, I'm sure, but he can't use the Shield ANYWAY, so moot point)

In any event, I think Cursed Shield progress for battles comes from the existence of the victory screen. I believe if all enemies run, you still get a Victory.

Solitary Island is best anyways.

To add to Meeple's post, the only battles that do not count are if the wearer is dead (obviously), or if the battle ends in an event. Gau leaping and returning are two examples.

I know that. By "do you get AP", I was talking about whether you could gain AP from enemies running or not.
