RisenTerranPosted 6/14/2012 10:20:49 PM | So I'm loving the story and to be honest, and I don't get all the hate, however, one part felt REALLY out of place. So much so I was bothered by it.
The boss of act 2.
SPOILERS FOR D2 & D3
That wasn't a diablo boss at all. Not even a little. It was... I dunno, Devil May Cry? Final Fantasy? All the Prime evils were small and rather rational. Belial's first form was what I was expecting (after all, the other 5 evils were small), and when he transformed and has such a NEEDLESSLY Showy assault on my eyes and ears I felt like the game was trying too hard. The rest of the game has been grimy, simple, and great atmospherically. Belial does not belong here.
Anyone else feel this way? Just curious if I was the only one :D --- Ya, Im the guy who used trig to prove the Black Comet was far bigger than the Ark. There is now proof that Shadow's Chaos Control cant be rivaled by Sonic's. |

RisenTerran (Topic Creator) Posted 6/14/2012 10:26:50 PM | Oh, and BTW I'm not complaining about beating him either. I'm on HC and I took him down first try (obviously XD), I just hated his guts and I felt dirty.
SPOILERS:::
Untill I got to go to Areat Again :D --- Ya, Im the guy who used trig to prove the Black Comet was far bigger than the Ark. There is now proof that Shadow's Chaos Control cant be rivaled by Sonic's. |
thereddeath3486Posted 6/14/2012 10:27:44 PM | Yea, let's see, you've got a lord of terror, hatred, destruction, sin, pain, (maiden) anguish, and it's the lord of lies that is gigantic?? Although maybe it could make sense, I mean he's the lord of lies so maybe it was really fake..like an illusion? Though he did suck at lying throughout the rest of act 2 : / |
RisenTerran (Topic Creator) Posted 6/14/2012 10:28:55 PM | Yeah, I thought it was going to turn out to be that the BIG form was an illusion not the little one and that was his final lie, but no. -_- --- Ya, Im the guy who used trig to prove the Black Comet was far bigger than the Ark. alfredesmithPosted 6/14/2012 10:33:06 PM | Well, Diablo and Mephisto in D2 wern't exactly small. Andariel was pretty tall too, if I remember correctly. Baal wasn't tall so much as just wide as was Duriel. So there is some history for size. Many of the non-boss monsters could also be huge (siege breakers, for example).
With Belial I'd point out that he also destroys part of the causway during his "transformation", which is then restored upon his death. This indicates that the destruction was likely an illusion. Thus, the swirling green vortex and his enormous size are also likely magic induced exaggerations (if you want a lore reason).
Honestly, mechanics wise, he's my favorite boss in the entire Diablo series so far. I like that he's multi-phase and that his third phase breaks up the monotony of shoot-shoot-kite-shoot. If anything, I'd like Blizzard to consider him as a template for future bosses and make them more mechanically demanding and maybe less gear demanding, though high levels of both would be good too. |
SteamsterPosted 6/14/2012 10:34:51 PM | Just wait until you see the "realm of terror." |

Mechanics were indeed fine, but he still felt wildly out of place...
Also, wasnt the strategy shoot-shoot-kite-shoot? He kept attacking so that's what I did... Except when I trolled him by Diamond Skin Grinding his face, but I do that to everyone. --- Ya, Im the guy who used trig to prove the Black Comet was far bigger than the Ark.
