The game doesn't force you to use the auction house to progress...

I was progressing through Act 2 slowly as a Barb, and now that they released ilvl data, I've realized that I was doing it entirely with Hell Act 4 and Inferno Act 1 gear. I did buy most of it off the AH(because I'm impatient) but I could have farmed all of that gear by myself.

Sooo... what's your argument, exactly?

It's a question of patience and time really.

I farmed Act IV Hell Cydaea, Azmo, and D for like a week back then just to get enough gear to make it at least minimally possible for Act I Butcher farming. I'm getting good stuff now with patch 1.0.3. Honestly, this game isn't going anywhere, so I thought, meh, if it takes a week just for an upgrade or two to make it feasible for Inferno Act II then so be it.

Pretty much. I had the option to do it either way if I wanted to.

If you have 10 hours to spare to get a single item? Sure, I guess?

Farmign IS in fact possible, no one has ever denied that. They just made it so tedious and long, and boring, that the AH is a much more appealing option.

In Diablo 2, if you didn't trade for your gear, you didn't get anywhere. The AH is just a facilitator to trading. Stop complaining and acting like they ruined Diablo because of the auction house

Except Activision-Blizzard has already admitted that the game is designed to force you to use the AH.

So, again what was your point?
