Does the Wii have an HDMI port?

#1TheSpiderSense5Posted 2/16/2013 2:41:17 PM
Basically, the topic title. I'm getting a new 70" inch TV and while it only has one AV port, the TV supports several HDMI ports.

I believe a PS3 has HDMI capability, so I'm good, and my old Xbox has AV cables, so that's okay too, but does a Wii have an HDMI port?

A quickly reply would be much appreciated. Thanks.

No, the Wii doesn't have one but you could buy an HDMI converter to upscale and play your Wii games through HDMI on your HDTV.

http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-1080P-Output-Upscaling-Converter/dp/B007PY3ZPG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361051811&sr=8-1&keywords=hdmi+wii

Another alternative would be to get a Wii U instead and all your Wii games will automatically be upscale to HD via the Wii U's own HDMI input but if you don't want to pay more then this converter is your best choice. I don't actually own the converter so I can't say how good it upscale the Wii games compare to the Wii U.

Is the AV port a component port (Depending on the TV, it will have multiple HDMI's but one component)? If so you can get Wii component cables for dirt cheap, less than $5 territory. Either way, you'll need to get an HDMI cable for your 360, because the Wii HDMI dongles are a in a whole different price range than any of your other options.

Lol, I actually have the ORIGINAL Xbox and not the 360 (I know, who has it these days?), but thank you both for the help. It's much appreciated.

I actually just got that today and been using it. I have to say it actually does a really good job. Don't expect any "omg it's actually HD now" quality, but it is noticeably better than just using component cables on a HD tv. It looks cleaner, sharper, and colors are more vibrant looking. I would recommend it over component cables to be honest.

Also on a side note, depending on how far away from the tv you be, you may also want to pick up this for the Wii as well. It's marvelous and with how and where I placed them on the tv, you can barely notice them.

I don't sit very far from my TV.

And I thought Amazon only shipped to the US?

It depends on the seller or the item. But most items direct from Amazon themselves, will ship to most countries.

But I live in Canada...

Whoops, it turns out that the TV came with 2 AV ports instead of 1, the description lied to me, lol. I can accommodate my Wii and my Satellite, and if I want to play Xbox, I just switch AV ports with my Wii. Thanks a lot guys.

Now, all I need is a HDMI cable to play my PS3 on and I'm all set...

No, I failed to see the "old"! My mistake, I'm not one to pretend the Xbox doesn't exist. Just forgot that it did it's HD through component rather than HDMI.
