So, I have played a good amount of MMOs, bearing through the first month or two only; WoW and EQ. After recently being burned on Warhammer and Age of Conan (we all know the story), I am very reluctant to shell out cash for another MMO at launch which LOOKS promising and heck, even the minute amount of gameplay was amazing (Warhammer till T2 or Age of Conan until you 'unlocked' the real game). I understand the qualms of an MMO launch (yet to figure out why a company would repeat past failures of another company) so the queues, servers being laggy or down, and general UI bugs are not of big concern. However, game breaking bugs such as whole talents not working in the case of WoW or Warhammer is nearly impossible for me to deal with, especially when pertaining to my class. Or, when a game centered around PvP's endgame is PvE instances.
What are the impressions so far? Are people happy with their purchase? How does this differ from WoW past the level fifteen area (Note: haven't played WoW or an MMO for that matter monthly since January)? Are any WoW crossovers debating making this their current, number one game? If so, why?
Now, undoubtedly I will be flamed, but from glance at the first few pages, little was to be found on informative discussion for customers like myself. But, if there is such a thread, please direct me to it.
Thanks for the input :)
This game is just another mmo, same kind of quests (kill X of these, collect Y of those) with some flight combat added into the mix at later levels and rather dull pvp with only restricted areas being reserved for pvp (booo). But otherwise you grind and complete quests to level. If you're unsure about getting it I would wait for a trial or get on a friends account for an evening or something because I have a feeling that once most realize that there isn't anything ground breaking in this game they will cancel off like they did with AoC and WAR.
I like it so far albeit I'm only level 18 however I don't think I'll cancel my WoW sub.
There is absolutely nothing ground breaking about this MMO other than maybe the PvPvE system they have. Combat is nothing special, graphics are nothing special and everything else is nothing special. That being said, it is probably the best balanced, most fun, beautiful and serene MMO you will probably play.
Well been playing since beta myself. So I knew what I was getting into. I myself was also sick of AoC/Warhammer type launches of unfinished games. Aion doesnt feel that way to me. The game has been out in Korea for 10months or so already so thats a big advantage to us in the states. Its a lot more polished and I personally havent run into any bugs or broken stuff. Its nice jumping into a game with nearly a year of patches and bug fixing. I mean think how much better AoC would be if it came out a year later...Warhammer though lol who knows, they still havent really done much with that game. LOL barely any careen balanced, OMG they added another ramp to the keep. Nice work for a year.
The gameplay is nothing revolutionary, its the same as every other MMO to come out yet, EQ2, WoW, etc, same basic premise. UI is great, quest log/tracker is great. As Ive said I really havent noticed any bugs and everything feels real polished and complete. Graphics are beautiful and the game rusn smooth as silk on high without super brand new $3000+ comps.
Its also a bit tougher then EQ2, WoW or Warhammer which I personally like. Dying actually kinda sucks in PvP and Pve. PVE you lose exp but you have to pay money to get it back. Dying in PVP you lose abyss points, which are used to by pvp gear and other good stuff so it actually means something to die unlike Warhammer where you get a weak debuff that you can pay a trivial amount of gold to get removed.
Server ques suck but thats the deal with any new game. Ques now are better then the warhammer strategy of dropping serevers from the sky, then having to merge all but 6 of them in the course of a year.
Well off to play.
