So, about those 8-4 and 8-5 bananas... I'm back to work.

As in, right now.

To-do list from last time:
1) Create a "character mod" code and try going past the last character.
2) Create a "levitation" code (along with "no clipping", maybe) and look for the bananas that way.
3) Look for the flag that gets set when you pick up any given hidden banana (this will be annoying).

#1 is a complete failure. I'm not going to post a code for it, but here are all the character values I bothered to test
00 = Aiai
01 = Meemee
02 = Baby
03 = Gongon
04 = Yanyan
05 = Doctor
06 = Baby Robo
07 = Game crashes
08 = Game crashes

Considering that Baby Robo is a secret character and isn't separated from the rest at all, I see no reason to continue testing values and crashing my Wii.

I'll be posting some kind of update on #2 within two hours, even if that update is just "still haven't got a code".

Aha, I just found the height modifier.

80D1F6CC

A code that adds about 300 to the current value whenever you push 1 would seem to be ideal as an "infinite jumps" type of code.

Now to see if that Ocarina code type actually exists.

#2 is a bust.

I can also set my position to any point inside that particular pillar. No luck.

And #3 comes up dry as well. Here's what a save file looks like for a non-cheated complete first level:
80070000007F000000000000000000000000000000070000000000000000000000000000

Here's a hacked one that didn't really pick up every banana on the same level:
80070000007F000000000000000000000000000000070000000000000000000000000000

Sharp eyes will notice that even if you didn't really get every banana, the save file ends up identical.

This means that I'm now willing to say with 100% certainty that there is no reward for collecting the hidden bananas

Well it is not that surprising that there is no reward, but I think it was kind of expected. Still, that is awesome that you were finally able to get it to this point to say for sure one way or the other... NICE WORK!

Now I just have to actually, you know, finish the game. It's nice to actually have motivation to play again now that the 8-4 and 8-5 mystery is laid to rest.

10-5 is absolutely brutal. I've managed to get safely onto the red spikes at the end a grand total of once, and I promptly rolled off the edge out of excitement. Whoever was responsible for that level really needs to be fired, and not just because of the difficulty. I've seen a video of the glitched platform. If I had to guess, I'd say that no human actually got that far in 10-5 at any point in development. It's not the kind of bug that you're likely to miss, since that platform is kind of important

As for the other levels, I have worlds 1,2, and 4 totally complete, and world 3 is just missing 3-5. A good chunk of world 9 is complete as well, since I picked up the easier bananas just to have them out of the way.
