Question about Brand confidence

For the first time I can remember, I clicked on PS3 system and didn't see any final fantasy game anywhere on either gamefaqs top 10. And it's not even like there are a lot of recent, high visibility releases sucking all the oxygen out of the room. That's very, very likely a product of eroded brand confidence in "Final Fantasy."

So if Versus does release in the next 24 months, is this thing even gonna sell? Strength of the series from a business standpoint was that you were guaranteed about 5 million blind buys by slapping the brand and a number on the title.

This can't be a serious question. This REALLY can't.

Will Versus sell? Of course.
As for your "5 million blind buys" statistic, can you please cite your source?

I do agree with you, though, to a small extent, that the Final Fantasy brand has not been as strong as it once was (for various reasons - unusually long development times, perceived loss of confidence after FFXIII and FFXIV, but these are really subjective). However, if you're deducing that from the absence of a FF game in GFAQs's Top 10, I challenge you to reconsider your conclusion and rethink it seriously.

Yes because the people of gamefaqs represent the entire population of the world. I guess that means we have a lot of idiots that have more fingers than brain cells while all the smart people are in the minority. Oh how I weep for humanity...

At least one of you needs to learn the difference between correlation and causality.

I'm not assigning causality (because any final fantasy is not on gamefaqs top 10 -> FFV13 won't sell).

I'm questioning its absence as an indicator of low-interest due to lack of brand confidence. Low traffic where there was once high traffic would correlate highly with lackluster sales for pretty much any brand of, well, anything. Don't really understand why anyone would think this puts me out on any type of limb.

It puts you on a limb because it's FINAL FANTASY. Sure this isn't rational logic but the thing is, even if it is less popular than in the past, it will still get buyers regardless of how bad it is. It is the JRPG Call of Duty.

Not anymore it's not, which is what OP was implying.

I know he is implying that but It is still Final Fantasy regardless of how much it downgrades, just like Call of Duty (though i think Versus will be good)

I think it'll really depend of the marketing. If it's done right I can see it sell well.
What I'm worried about is if the game sucks, the reaction of the fans after.
That would be really bad as far as brand confidence is concerned.

Who said anything about the entire population of the world? The entire population of the world doesn't play video games, nor does the entire population of the world play Final Fantasy, nor does the entire population of the world even have access to ****ing electricity. The TC brings up a great point. Here are the boards that have an FF game in their Top 10 in 2013:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps4

http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp

http://www.gamefaqs.com/vita (A remake of an FF game than already came out has more interest FF13, FF13-2 or the newest upcoming console title - LR.)

http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes

http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes

http://www.gamefaqs.com/gba

Now let's look at:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/xbox360
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3

No final fantasy game in their top 10. Get over it and face the truth, the Final Fantasy brand is failing.
