That was a tough one...I picked X but just barely over IV-IX's system. The system in XIII-3 looks to be pretty cool too. Different, but cool

X-2 should be separate, cause when it comes down to it, it is just vastly different to the other games listed with it.

I prefer FFX-2, XII, XIII, XIII-2, LR, Type 0, and Crisis Core battle system over FFI-IX battle system. I also prefer FFX over them too. FF didn't start to catch up being decently fun battle systems until the PS2 era IMO.

ATB. My problem with XII system is that magic became really useless in the last part of the game. In the International version they kind fix that taking out the damage limit, but I prefer do 20000 of damage with Excalibur in a dark enemy than wait Holy do 30000.

I cannot even begin do understand how someone could possibly like the ATROCITY that is normal ATB except for purely nostalgic reasons.
It has all the disadvantages of round based and real time battles but the advantages of none.

Anyway, FFXII + FFXIII battles FTW!

...except when people cannot even tell the difference between game mechanics and balancing.
It's hardly a flaw of the system that magic was weak, it was a flaw of the numbers and of the hardware / animations.
Magic being weak in FFXII was simply because of numbers (easily remedied by re-balancing and making magic deal higher damage) and the system that cued all magic from everyone until the previous animation was done, which was created PURELY because otherwise the PS2 would not have been able to handle the graphics without slowdown.
This still has nothing to do with the actual battle system.
