Same problem. I'll get static "popping" about 80% of the times I boot the game, and that means that eventually a track of music/sound effect will be replaced by VERY loud buzzing (menu music, "special zombie" music, etc), Only solution I've found is to keep restarting until it stops.
I also had the same problem using my G35. Had those annoying frying-like sounds, buzzing in the menu and stuff. For me thought they're totally gone if I run the game as administrator, not even the slightest noise.
i had this issue with my g35 headset on my 1st 2 times starting it.. extremely loud shrieking static.. then on my third attempt without changing anything it was fine (except the voice from my character seemed like it had massive echo in it).

Ye mines working perfect now I havent changed anything
Found someone on the DI boards who suggested running the game from the steamapps folder, and that did indeed prevent the static the first time. It also broke the game for me (no shadows to drop items appeared, Simieon was already in the lifeguard tower during the second quest, etc). Restarted the game and the static was back, but sans the incredibly loud buzzing.
i'm hoping this is fixed soon, dead island was a big push for me to finally buy the logitech headset thankfully the logitech was on sale on their website, i think it's still under 120 for anyone who's interested. But Dead Island was the first thing i tested it with and I was so frustrated thinking i got a messed up headset. But noticed all other games were excellent with the headset i started to question.
This is a good game but it needs some major fixing.
