So we're never getting SC?

#1theofficefan99Posted 10/7/2012 8:13:32 PM
I just bought this game and it's amazing, and it'd be a shame if SC never comes out.

And if it does, I'm afraid that it'll only be available through Steam or something, which I can't do. I'd much rather have them release them on Steam, on the PS Store, AND for retail on the Vita. Why didn't they do that with Ys Origins, actually? :/ That would have been better. I really want to play it.

Thoughts/speculations?

Thanks!

SC has not been officially announced, but XSeed is slowly translating it and chipping away at its massive script which contains about 3 million Japanese characters IIRC. It's twice as long as this game. Actually, here's a picture of it's scenario book.

Recently, Falcom announced that they were finally giving SC a PSN version, so a digital release on the PSP/Vita isn't so unlikely anymore.

In addition, there are few problems in regards to what you want:

1. There is no Vita version of SC, so there will not be a retail release for it.

2. Ys Origins is only for the PC, so naturally, a small publisher like XSeed's best option in releasing it was through Steam.

3. The PSP is pretty much dead outside of Japan, so a physical/retail release is not only unprofitable, but actually an outright foolish decision that is simply not worth the time and money.

The earliest you should expect a release for SC is early 2013.

Well yeah I'm definitely not expecting it to be released this year, but no retail release? I can't buy it then. Call me an old fart, but I'm against downloading games. XSEED absolutely cannot use some coding magic and release a retail Vita version or something? If so, that just really, really sucks.

Makes me wish that Falcom had branches worldwide that would translate as the game development went along :p

I believe that XSeed is really only comprised of translators, so no other versions can be made there.

XSeed actually was waiting and asking Falcom often if they could make a PSN version of SC before it was announced a small while ago IIRC.

XSEED has a whole one programmer and she's mostly to work her magic to update things to work on Steam. She can't redo a whole game for another console. That would be up to Falcom. Honestly the announcement about FC for PS3 is promising, because that could lead to SC and the 3rd for it as well which gives XSEED another option.

And let me leave this link to Tom's most recent comment on SC's progress:

Well as long as there's a retail version and it's out by 2013, I guess I'll be fine!

My army of zin came in here to encourage you to buy Ys Origin. Reasonably, you can't expect a physical release in NA of this game. It's Ys and it's PC. That combination is not going to sell like hotcakes and, therefore, would not have good returns. I really think you should reconsider playing considering this game is worth your while enough to warrant a digital purchase. It's cheap, too. And you get Leaderboards!
As an aside, you can get a physical copy, you know. If nowhere else, you can probably buy one directly from Falcom.

I wouldn't expect Trails 2 in early 2013. Come on, folks, optimism is alright but realism is better. Later is always more likely.

I'm not trying to antagonize you but I really suggest you rethink that decision. You're missing out on a great game for really insignificant reasons. Just because a game is Digital only doesn't mean you have to miss out on it and you have to understand that XSeed is a small company and don't have the resources to do a retail release on a system that is pretty much dead. Best chance you got on a retail release is if Falcom releases SC on PS3 just like they did with FC and XSeed decides to go retail on both of those titles which Tom already stated was unlikely. The retail release of PSP is even LESS unlikely. Its fine to be against digital download but trust me XSeed isn't doing this to spite their fans they are doing it because they love their fans. Its better to have a copy of a game than none at all and DD for PSP/Steam is pretty much the only two whole options they got so far.

As for Steam games. You shouldn't worry about being able to run a Falcom game on your computer, chances are it can. Falcom games have really low specs, so again I urge you to rethink your point of view on this.

I MIGHT but I don't know. I just don't like digitally downloading stuff.

Does anyone think XSEED will localize Nayuta No Kiseki, by the way? The game looks great and it doesn't have a lot of text.

I don't, either. In fact, I'm a staunch opponent of digitally distributed media. Still, that is best suspended at times. I've enjoyed the Leaderboard support enough for the purchase to be warranted...put tens of hours into that. For Trails 2, I'd do it, too, but that's only because I really like the game. I have not bought Felghana Steam, for example (still only played the game once...what kind of fan am I?).

I don't care how well their Ys PSP games have sold; I really don't see them picking up another PSP game at this stage in the game (bearing Trails 2 in mind). You really think the company can field two risky games on a last-gen system? I'm not saying Fishing Resort, a retail Wii game, was any better a venture, but perhaps it could have been because, presumably, there was much less to translate there than X no Kiseki.
