GameFAQs has a wonderful image that sums up the effort in this game.

Look at this. No, not at the gunner's body clipping through the hull of the ersatz Hanomag [well, look at that too] or the rubble clipping through the spire's wall. Not at the fact that we're not using the iron sight on the MG. Not at the fact that a player with a machine gun is being fired at by just one enemy in the squad, none of the others are looking at the player, and none of them are taking cover.

Look at the Chrysler Building spire in the background. The walls are totally undamaged by a fall six hundred feet or more onto solid pavement. The windows are still in their frames and uncracked. The damn blinds are even still perfectly straight, ignoring the angle of the building! Was this game really made by a process so utterly devoid of actual imagination that nobody even thought of what would *happen* to the spire if it fell that far?

Right on. They must of stole other works and threw them together and looky here you have a game.
It is indeed pathetic.

The funny thing is that in the beginning opening cinematic, the Germans nuke the Statue of Liberty & you see it crumble but at the very end, it's magically whole again. Yeah, continuity issues like that really bug me out.

A couple more:

What in God's name is that house-sized object on the right of the screen supposed to be? It looks like the block of polygons you get if you try to use the Alyxgun in Half-Life 2, but this one's *intentional*. Tip to the devs: if you have atrocious textures, don't make weapons that fill most of the screen.

That aside, the Maus in the street below has tracks that are far too narrow; the secondary gun is too long while the main gun is too short. It's missing a headlight and the remaining one is in the wrong place, it doesn't have the two large whip antennae, and the turret ring is much too far forward. This is a real one:

The Maus wasn't a practical vehicle: the Soviet IS-3 had a similar sized main gun [122mm versus 128mm] on a 46 ton chassis against the Maus' 188 tons. You'll also note the game's website depicts a different tank as Maus, the one with the Jagdtiger gun / Panther turret / Tiger II hull.

This is supposed to be the Landkreuzer P1000 Ratte super-heavy tank. But unless stop signs in New York are the better part of 20 feet tall, this isn't a 36-foot high Ratte. The turret's the wrong shape, the 128mm secondary gun [generally thought to be hull-mounted or coaxial] is missing, and the AA guns don't seem to be there either. It's got two tread sets on each side when the real one was supposed to have three, and you can probably see the LoD cutoff has reduced the two tracks on the right to completely flat grey loops.

This is apparently a design sketch of the Ratte:

In conclusion, if anyone claims this game depicts actual German special projects, punch them.

Um, actually the game looks pretty damn bad. You've got edges so jagged they're practically serrated, low-detail pixellated / blurry textures, awful LoD distance cutoff, fairly pathetic effects and apparently in motion it looks even worse. I suggest you avoid it like the plague. I mean, compare this:

to this

Seems that Dean thinks his Maus is *this* one:

I'm kinda lost for words on this one. They put something that looks vaguely like a Maus in the game and then decided this one was the one to give the name to? Not to mention the utterly lazy omission of the tool racks and hauser cables on the hull sides.

That plus we have some nice screwed up woodgrain texture at the bottom left, dynamic lighting from a muzzle flash that isn't there, and LoD cutoff eating all but two of the windows.
LAboy06Posted 3/2/2008 1:07:10 PM

Haha, I like the comparison. It shows that "Black" a PS2 and Xbox game, almost looks better than this supposedly "Next-Gen" title. Wow, did the developers even try to make this game any good?!

PS: I am not a graphics whore, anybody and I mean ANYBODY can tell you this game looks BAD! Even the gameplay in the videos look boring and generic!

ColoradoKindBud, they bomb the statue and blow off the arm. a nuke hadnt been developed and if you could see the statue, you would die if it was a nuke
