ok, so someone who bought the game and the expansion, please help out here.
ok, so i'm trying to see if i can find evidence that the problem with the free flOw copy is due to a coding glitch, and not a deliberate design as the Sony PR team is claiming.
(WARNING: this will only be possible if you have BOUGHT flOw off the store, not downloaded the free version. you will also need to have bought the expansion.)
basically, what I need you to do is this:
1. delete flOw and its expansion from your PS3 completely.
2. download the game again from your download list.
3. install the game.
4. play the game, while signed into psn, BEFORE re-downloading and installing the expansion pack.
5. you will be prompted to install the patch. do so.
6. re-download the expansion pack, and try to install it.
7. please report the results of whether or not the DLC install works here.
if it doesn't, you can just repeat the process, but this time, perform step 6 before step 4, and the install will work.

OK, I followed your instructions with a purchased version of flOw and was unable to install the expansion after playing the full version with the update. I don't have ANY idea how that can be by deliberate design because the 'full version' does not contain what I call the man o' war creature or the camera/snapshot food. Sounds like a glitch to me.
It could be they are claiming it as deliberate design because they no longer sell flOw without the expansion and haven't for ages, but that's tricky since someone could still have waited this long to buy the expansion only to find out they can't use it.
I hope that helped you out.
Anyone wanting to duplicate this doesn't have to worry about losing save progress (definitely) or any trophies they had gotten (as far as I can tell). It just takes time.
Sorry for the double post, I just looked around a bit and I realized what was going on. That and I'm not very active with the deleting things and redownloading idea, so it never occurred to me that well, duh, of course someone who bought flOw and hadn't bought the expansion yet, but did eventually could fix the glitch this way. Something to add to my FAQ along with the trophies.
But they might not know they could if Sony is claiming it was designed that way. It looks like it wasn't. Not having the free version, I can't tell you if it was in any way altered--I just know, based on the experiment you proposed and I tried, that the expansion does not work on a paid version of flOw if it's played after being updated. That looks like a glitch, not something intentional. Either the new download of flOw has been altered to be this altered free version, or the free version was not altered and they goofed.
