tonythetiger09Posted 1/30/2008 7:19:21 PM | Times have changed, console RTS's, may be the greatest new thing to the genre since starcraft itself. I'm interested to see how this will work out and if its success will come from more than just hype and its ties to Halo.
However, ten years after its release, starcraft is still the most popular RTS with the highest sales and I'm willing to bet has the most people still playing after its initial release. Lets be honest, in ten years, very few people will be playing any of the halos compared to the population count that starcraft still holds. No other game just has the lasting power and fan base that it created. And for all you starcraft fan boy bashers out there, play the game and you will see that we have a reason to be who we are.
But yeah i'm exited to see how Halo Wars plays out in relation to other games of the genre, Ensemble Studios is nothing to scoff at. But sadly i fear that when Starcraft II is released, most other RTS games are just going to be hidden in its shadow. --- Not changing sig until Starcraft II release date is announced. Could be a long time.......... |
Nos Mortus VirPosted 1/31/2008 7:59:49 AM | And counterstrike is still one of the most played online games many years on - however that doesn't stop people playing other games or other games selling well.
I'm confused as to why you're posting so much about starcraft on the halo wars board - given that Halo Wars isn't even on the same platform as starcraft 2 and your posts seem to have very little behind them other then "Starcrafts amazing and still really highly played".
The main reason Starcraft is still so popular in my eyes - and the same with counterstrike - is that they've become popular through being so highly used in tournaments and as such have become more "mainstream" with the majority of people having heard of them and as such assuming they're the best out there. Due to this the majority of people playing them (counterstrike in particular) are playing because of it's reputation and a large portion of them haven't played many other games, having said that I'm not suggesting thats the case for all starcraft and counterstrike players.
I get the feeling that starcraft 2 will go the way of CS:Source with the majority of people playing SC sticking to SC as its what they know and they aren't willing to learn the intricasies of the new game like they have in the original as it means they are no longer the "pros" and just as clueless as everyone else. |

This statement alone shows that you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what you're talking about.
First of all, Bungie isn't making this game. Ensemble is. Bungie is just making sure they don't screw up the Halo canon too badly.
Second, making a PC version isn't really about money. It is much simpler to make a port than it is to make the game in the first place.
