I think it an organic race like the one form Nexus or in Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War

I bet that we will find out sooner or later in an expansion pack or a sequal because the Vasari aren't really fighting this menance they are trying to run away from it. However now the pesky humans have stopped them from gaining the necessary reasources to move on so for the moment they are now stuck, which means that sooner or later the cataclism that they are running away from will soon catch up to them.

Lmao it would be hilarious if it was the Tyranids.. In Warhammer 40k Fluff the Tyranids are a alien to the galaxy, that is invading the imperium and the other races.

Yeah, everyone on the official board thinks it's a fourth race, or maybe some disease that makes them go mad and attack their allies (think The Beast, from Homeworld Cataclysm), because it's being mentioned that they're running from their old Sins, it's likely something they caused themselves.
